how to use this product?

Just wiping a small amount with sponge applicator works, but I heated mine up a bit with a heat gun (created a liquid) and then used the heat gun again after application to facilitate absorption.

Will this work on dark brown leather boots without discoloring them?

It's a great product, that will also waterproof.
