Citizen Men's Promaster Air Skyhawk Eco-Drive Pilot Watch, Atomic Timkeeping

I'm a fan of Citizen watches, both for their look and their practicality. I have a Nighthawk that's over 15 years old and it still runs like a champ. The only thing it didn't have that I wanted was radio controlled timekeeping. Enter the Promaster Skyhwak A-T. It does it all and it's gorgeous. Just some of the features I use: 1. UTC time (formerly Grenich Mean Time) I am an amatuer astronomer and I do a bunch of astrophotography. Times are almost always given in UTC, so having that on my watch is very handy, and allows me to set local time and the world time of my choice, for three separate clocks. 2. Two time clocks for monitoring time in different regions. We travel a bunch and that means we're often in a different time zone. This watch lets me know what time it is back home, minimizing the 2am phone calls. 3. Stop watch. Astrophotography is time depedant for long exposures, and knowing when your target is available and for how long is critical. The stop watch/timer lets me keep track of that so I never accidentally miss the shot. 4. Alarms. I don't need to travel with an alarm clock. I have one on my wrist. It backs up my watch, which I've learned to snooze in my sleep. Can't do that with the watch! 5. The slide rule bezel. Yes, I'm a nerd. I love slide rules, and the one on this watch is fully functional, including for conversion factor. Gallins to liters, miles to kilometers, and so on. As a Skyhawk, there are also plenty of flight calculations and conversion built into it. 6. Atomic time keping. This watch synchronizes with the atomic clock each night, ensuring that you're watch is acorrect up to a fraction of a second. Now, this requires a bit of exlpanation. The time signal is sent out from a centralized location in America and Europe, China and Japan. A radio in the watch attempts to receive that signal three times a night. Two are hard coded in; one is adjustable. At these times, the watch "listens" for the time code. You can adjust it to pick up the correct signal for the area you are in. If it picks up the signal, then your watch will adjust itself to the correct time. If not, you can run the search manually, or just wait for tomorrow night. I live in the mountains of East Tennessee, pretty far away from the signal source. My watch updates about once or twice a month. I can increase that by wearing it to bed, since my body apparently acts like giant antenna. One thing I'd like to see added to the citizen is someway to determine the time and date of the last successful update. The only thing you can check is whether the last attempt wa successful or not. 7. Eco drive. Light powers this watch, and if it lasts as long as my Nighthawk, I'll be supremely happy. No winding, no auto winding, no batteries and no dead atches. If there's medium bright light, it's charging. There's an indication of the charge on the dial, and the instructions say a full charge will last for weeks, if not months! Final note, it is a handsome watch. The brown leather strap sets off the gold bezel and silver body of the watch. The black dial and white markings create an easy to read watch face. And that remonds me of the final feature I use. 8. The back light. The Nighthawk does not have a back light, and the glowing hands never really worked well for me. The Skyhawk, on the other hand, is very easy to read at night. All in all, I'm very happy with this watch, and will purchase another Citizen down the road. There's a Calandrier I have me eye on...

**Don't listen to the negative comments. I'll explain why below. This thing is amazing and is more precise at telling time than your cell phone. This is my 2nd citizen watch now and I am glad I upgraded from the "luxury" fossil models of relic and diesel. Heck some citizens are cheaper than the overpriced diesel watches. In my opinion switching to citizen is worth the money for the craftsmanship alone. This watch looks amazing. I wish it was a couple mm bigger case size but it's perfect where it's at 46mm, any smaller I wouldn't have bought it. I get why some people say it's too hard to read, but c'mon now. The people who are using all the other features aside from the basics of clock reading and maybe the chronograph stop watch aire going to be actual airplane pilots who have good eyesight. I can also understand how some say it's hard to setup, but they give you clear cut instructions for every aspect of the watch. I found it very easy to setup your home and local times. Also, I feel setting the thing up and learning how to use all the features is the fun part. It's like buying a new car and playing around with the instructions, knobs, levers, and figuring everything out. It's fun! I want to learn this watch inside-out. I don't understand people complaining. If you wanted a watch that is easy and basic to use, easy to read, etc... why didn't you just buy a basic chronograph? I don't understand and I feel the people complaining shouldn't be, it's their fault they bought the complicated watch. Flat out. If they complained about the style or the watch having issues, then I would understand the complaint. Otherwise it's their fault, they knew what they were getting into when purchasing. My favorite feature is the atomic timing. It's pretty cool watching the thing adjust and set itself down to the second. Date, savings time, etc...itnall.does it on its own once you figure out what setting to choose and button to hit. And again, you learn how all this stuff works by reading the written instructions and watching vids. You can do all this by downloading the citizen app, registering your expensive watch, and it will give you exactly what you need to know about the instructions for your model and warranty information. I highly recommend this watch. It definitely feels and looks luxurious on my wrist. This one will definitely be for more dress up situations as opposed to my daily wear, I have others for that. Take the advice, you'll love the watch as much as I do. !

I wanted a black watch for daily wear that I was casual, but nicer than for yard work, hanging out in the garage and puttering. This fits the bill perfectly, elegant but not suit-and-tie day; even though the Promaster Air Skyhawk would work for that too. I have owned this watch for over a month before reviewing. The dials glow quite brightly in the dark after being outside and I like the blue color. I have a Carty quick release watch strap that I also put on the watch for when I am outside swimming, or the Wife wants to wear the watch. (She likes that she can read the dial without her glasses on.) I wish all watches came with quick change straps. Looks good with both straps. I don’t need all the functions for fuel calculation, but I like atomic timekeeping. Both my Seiko atomic and Citizen atomic watches tick to the exact second, love at first sight. I like the orange accent colors on the watch, at first, I wasn’t sure I would like the subtle splash of color. I bought a band with orange stitching, and it looks great. Sorry I’m not the best photographer with my non-dominant hand. I’m left-handed but took photos with my right. Keep your eye out for amazon sales as the price for this watch can fluctuate by $100.00’s any given week. My only complaint is the strap. You do have one hole to micro-adjust the strap size in the clasp. At the cost point of this watch, it should be a given. I have large wrists but not like some of my friends that are well over 6’. I had to remove one link for proper fit, but they would need a few extra links. I’m sure Citizen would send you a link or two if needed but at this price point, they should include a few in the box. Don’t get me wrong, I like the watch and it’s a keeper. Hope the black finish lasts a long time. I had a Seiko with black Ti coating that looked good for over 10 years of wear. I’ll see how the Citizen watch holds up.

Excelente producto, muy buen reloj

I have a previous version in stainless. Bought this to replace an eighteen year old non-atomic that finally 'died' and did not respond to the capacitor battery replacement. So far black finish seems to be holding up. Looks like more of a powder coat finish rather than the 'paint' used on earlier black products. Atomic means no setting and when traveling, 2 time zones is easy. The slide rule on this unit seems a bit less accurate than the older stainless, but still useful for quick approximations. I've had good results with the Citizen watches and plan on using this one a long time.

I just changed my mind due to color. I never opened the box, returned it within 15 or 20 minutes. I picked basically the same watch in blue. It is so nice, but so is the one I returned and if offered at the same price I originally got it for will most likely purchase it again, I like the style so well. Great watch.

I've had this watch for 5 months, now and I'm really enjoying it. This is one of my favorite watches to use as a daily driver. The color scheme is very masculine and classy. It reminds me a bit of what you would see on the control deck/bridge of old ships. My only issue is with the battery. It doesn't last nearly as long as my other nearly identical titanium version of the same watch. Both this watch and my titanium were purchased at the same time but I got the titanium version directly from Citizen. I ran tests and my titanium one is able to last several months without a full charge (as expected). The one I got from this site only lasts a few weeks. I reported the problem to Citizen and they're sending me a replacement. Just something to keep in mind.

I have started appreciating not having to deal with automatic movements or replacing batteries regularly. The 3 Citizen watches I own with ECO Drive are reliable and perform well. 2 of them even have atomic time keeping, so they are always updating the time nightly. This is my second Promaster, and I love the way it looks and feels on my arm. All my other expensive watch brands are now in a drawer, and the Citizens are the only ones I will wear.

One of my favorite watches. Fit and finish is 100% the second hand lines up perfectly all the way around the dial. Better quality than a Swiss battery watch that I have for the same price. Can never go wrong with a Citizen watch. Lume is superb. Red backlight on the digital portion is visible in the dark. It is a large watch. Approx 46mm. It is heavy. It's stainless. I have a small wrist (6 3/4") so it's large on my wrist but definitely wearable as a dress watch. The band is very comfortable.
