An authoritative illustrated guide to the fearsome predators that dominated the Mesozoic world for 180 million years New discoveries are transforming our understanding of the theropod dinosaurs, revealing startling new insights into the lives and look of these awesome predators. The Princeton Field Guide to Predatory Dinosaurs provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive coverage of the mighty hunters that ruled the earth for tens of millions of years. This incredible guide covers some 300 species and features stunning illustrations of predatory theropods of all shapes and sizes. It discusses their history, anatomy, physiology, locomotion, reproduction, growth, and extinction, and even gives a taste of what it might be like to travel back to the Mesozoic. This one-of-a-kind guide also discusses the controversies surrounding these marvelous creatures, taking up such open questions as the form and habitats of the gigantic Spinosaurus and the number of Tyrannosaurus species that may have existed. Features detailed species accounts of some 300 theropod dinosaurs, with the latest size and mass estimates Shares new perspectives on iconic predators such as T. rex and Velociraptor Covers everything from the biology of predatory dinosaurs to the colorful history of paleontology Features a wealth of color and black-and-white drawings and figures, including life studies, scenic views, and original skeletal, skull, and muscle reconstructions Includes detailed color maps Review: The first new non-avian theropod field guide in nearly four decades - I didn't think that Gregory Paul would produce another field guide to non-avian theropods, but this book is up-to-date, including new theropod species described up to 2024. Interestingly, Paul considers Stygivenator to be valid genus because Stygivenator for a long time has been recognized as a juvenile of T. rex. However, I disagree with Paul's view of Sinornithosaurus haoianus as a distinct genus because no study to my knowledge finds haoianus to be generically distinct from the Sinornithosaurus type species. Review: Dinosaur Classic - Finally an new updated edition of a classic dinosaur time. Loved this book for years and so glad to see it reprinted and updated. A++++++

Great addition to the library
This is a well written book that touches on most therapod dinosaurs currently known. The illustrations are mainly of skeletons, but it displays the known and assumed fossils of each dinosaur. Not a great deal of time spent on any one entry but plenty of information. Very scientific layout, not necessarily for the youngest readers.

Best Dino book ever!
I bought this for my 13 year old grandson who has been a dinosaur expert since before he could talk. Has entire library of dinosaur books. He said this is the best book he has ever read!

Predatory Dinosaurs
As with all Gregory Paul's dinosaur guides it is completely up to date, well illustrated and well written. I highly recommend it to anyone young or old who has an interest in dinosaurs. I have all of Gregory Paul's Princeton Field Guides and I can tell you that they are all exceptional. So, if you have an interest in dinosaurs than I greatly suggest that you purchase a copy of this book.

Nothing really new
A good book if you are only interested in predatory dinosaurs, but largely the same content and images as the author's overall "The Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs".

Looks good but not much new here.
I thought this new book might have a more comprehensive list of the newest dinosaur material, but I was sadly disappointed. A lot of the same old rehash of his earlier work which wasted a full half of the book, while there was little detail or mentioning of many of the newest found therapods worldwide. Some major therapods were simply clumped in with existing popular genera for no apparent reason, possibly authors nostalgia or lazy editing. With all the new tools available, if you're going to make a new and better edition then actually put some real effort into it. I expected better and Princeton press has been putting a lot of garbage out lately and calling them encyclopedias when they are just a mash of highly condensed material with little organization.
