Now in its second edition, this highly successful guide to safe prescribing of the most common classes of drugs is your starting point for safe and effective practice. The first edition was a direct response to requests from students for a compendium of the 100 most important drugs in the NHS. Research led by Professor Emma Baker identified the โtop 100 drugsโ by their importance and prescribing frequency. The top 100 drugs and the five most important intravenous fluids are presented using a clear, consistent layout across double-page spreads Drugs are arranged alphabetically and also listed by organ system and clinical indication, providing multiple pathways into the information Clinical pharmacology is discussed under the headings: common indications; mechanisms of action; important adverse effects; warnings; and important interactions Practical prescribing is discussed under the headings: prescription; administration; communication; monitoring; and cost A clinical tip is presented for every drug Single-best-answer questions are provided for self-assessment and to show how information from several drugs may be integrated Review: Great book - Great book for a student nurses Review: Use the code in the book for the E-version as well! - I'm a third-year medical student and I cannot emphasize how good this book is! It makes common drug indications (i.e. ACE-inhibitors) so clearly outlined without waffling on. The explanations are pretty concise for mechanisms and usually have clinically helpful information. I used the code for the online E-Book, and it is also pretty good. Obviously mostly the same, but the website makes searching for drugs so much easier and is a bit more interactive. Main indications are numbered on the website, and you can search for medications based on drug class/etc or by condition.

Excellent for NMP Students
I'm a trainee ACP in Acute Medicine and currently on the Non-Medical prescribing module. I spotted this book and thought I'd give it a go and i'm really pleased I found it! It's got just the right amount information on each class of drugs, so perfect for understanding the basic pharmacology. In particular i quite like the sections on communication with the patient which is particularly important if your are prescribing a drug your not all the familiar with. It's a great size, and I will definitely be taking this around with me whilst i'm working between A&E & AMU.

This book is my go to for studying pharmacology!
Iโm a physician associate student and this book has been a god send for looking up a particular medication/drug. I especially like the patient communication section as it can be quite difficult to explain how a drug works in laymenโs terms for a patient to understand. Really happy with my purchase and would recommend to all medical students!

It had the sufficient amount of information we needed to know and some extra stuff that were helpful! Honestly, I donโt know how I wouldโve studied and passed my test without this book! Everything is simplified and easy for the brain to digest!

Excellent Reference for Students and Healthcare Professionals
This is an excellent reference book for anyone studying pharmacology or working in healthcare. The content is well organized, easy to follow, and focuses on the most commonly prescribed medications, making it highly practical for both learning and clinical use. I particularly appreciate how the book explains key drug information in a concise and accessible way. It is a great resource for reviewing indications, mechanisms of action, side effects, and prescribing considerations without feeling overwhelmed.
