What is "For Talisman use only"?

'Talisman Use Only' means 'not for oral consumption', which protects the manufacturer from liability for anyone taking it orally.  Of course Iodine is a naturally occurring trace element that many of us don't get enough of from our diet.  Iodine supports thyroid functioning:  too little means the thyroid is sluggish, too much means the thyroid is in overdrive -- neither extreme is healthy.  FDA does not allow health claims for supplements and I suspect the fact that Lugol's formula contains both potassium iodide (most common across supplement formulas) and Iodine (uncommon but adding it is what Lugol's formula is known for).

Notice that the bottle does not recommend any dosage and doesn't even tell you how many micrograms are in the glass dropper but it can be calculated.  Other iodine supplements recommend 1,000 micrograms per day (not milligrams).  That's a really small amount.  Regardless of the brand, Lugol's formula is the same.   Healthcare websites calculations give us this amount for Lugol's formula:  2 drops is about 5.0 mg's of iodine/iodide (2.0 mg iodine, 3.0 mg iodide).  That amount is useful for some purposes (antiseptic) but far too much for most people, you don't want to burn out your thyroid -- you would become very sick indeed.

How many mg of iodine per drop?

According to the Lugols website, one drop of 2% gives 1.0 mg of iodine and 2.0 mg of potassium iodide.

Question 3

My lugols iodine no longer has a taste...both sealed and unsealed. Is this normal or should I buy a fresh bottle?

Unknown. I have only used Lugoll's Formula mixed with vegetable juice so never noticed any taste. I do not believe it was ever intended for direct undiluted ingestion. You can do a potato starch test to see if it has iodine in it. Iodine does not have a freshness date and does not go stale.

Can this be used for water purification?

Yes. You should do some research regarding the amount to use for the type of water involved. It can also be used to remove poisonous "FLUORIDE", from your body. I used 40-50 drops in a cup of tea or coffee daily and within a couple of weeks I noticed my teeth were no longer opaque and as my nails grew, no more white spots appeared on my nails, and they were so strong I could use them like a box cutter to open cardboard boxes
