Beautiful and Functional
I have two and I use them almost every day. For cups like these, in my thinking, the criteria that make them good are: holding comfort, stability on the table, how much liquid they can hold, whether they get hot in the microwave and aesthetics. This cup rates well in all these areas. The holding comfort is above average but not as good as some of my other cups. These are very sturdy on the table. Cups that have an inverted conical shape or the standard round one may not have a wide enough base, making them prone to tipping with relatively small bumps. These are definitely well above average on that and hard to tip accidentally. For me, the size was important. These are larger than average which is what I wanted, but not soup cup size. This middle size is sort of hard to get, and was one of the main reasons I got one of these and then another. The microwaveability is very important to me. I have very nice ceramic cups, but they get too hot in the microwave making them of limited use for making tea, for example, or re-heating coffee. These don't get hot at all in the microwave for up to two minutes which is the time it takes water to boil in my oven. Finally, they are really quite beautiful - simple, black and nicely shaped. They do come with a very nice giftbox, but this is sort of a waste if you are buying for yourself. I would rather not have that box; it adds to the price. In all I recommend them, but it seems that you need at least two to make a set, which makes them a bit spendy.

Great quality!
I bought this to paint and modify as a graduation gift for my boyfriend and he loved it! Perfect size and really well made. I plan on buying another for myself.

Not what I expected
This is not at all matte on the outside. It is shiny gloss on the outside and matte on the inside, so I was a little disappointed. However, it is good quality and comes in a cute little gift box.
