It is a beautiful and comprehensive book about Southern Christmas
It is a beautiful and comprehensive book about Southern Christmas. I am not a Southerner but I have lived here long enough to know that everything in this book is in line with what my friends and neighbors strive for and what they expect of me when I entertain. Rick Bragg talking about stealing Christmas trees near Rome and Cedartown (where I live now) brought back memories of stealing trees in the Taunus mountains in Germany with my cousin when I was twelve. I will have to keep my eyes open and my gassed up chainsaw in the trunk. The recipes are both traditional and trendy, just like Southern women.

It's okay
Bought this book specifically for a recipe that one of the editors said on the Today Show was in the book. It wasn't included but since the book is a nice one with some good ideas and other recipes, I decided to keep it. It's pretty expensive for what it contains though.

Wonderful Xmas Book !
Just bought this on a whim, after browsing for Xmas-related books in Amazon and got it yesterday. It exceeded my expectations, both in size and content. Is a huge Coffee Table book, almost 400 pages long, chockfull of lavish photos and yummy recipes, and lots of fun and heart-warming stories from the South. I'm not even a Southerner but truly enjoyed reading about Xmas in the South and plan to try some of the recipes and decoration tips over this holiday season. A real keeper if you love anything Xmas !

Love it!
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I enjoy the little one page essays. The essay on decorating the family tree had me laughing so hard I was crying....it's like he channeled our family Christmas tree tradition. Beautiful pictures, as always. Don't know that I saw any recipes I'd necessarily make, but I consider this a book to just sit down and get lost in and enjoy.
