Daiwa MF100THSL Megaforce THS Baitcasting, with Twitchin' bar, Left Hand,Black

IF YOU READ THIS PLEASE READ TO END! I'm disappointed. I just returned this reel because it was defective. I've used this model for several years, since it was introduced, without fail all over the Midwest and Canada fishing for pike, bass, crappie and the like. Awesome reel. But the one I got this week either has an assembly issue, or a bad gear, or something else interfering with quality control. The design is/was great. Some have questioned the use of the twitching bar, it is wonderful; it advances the line with one hand without imparting any slack. (like a strip retrieve in fly fishing) For example I can cast and then engage the spool with one hand while my other is on the trolling motor. If I twitch the rod tip slack occurs and I lose touch with the lure. I can either jig traditionally or twitch. I love this reel, I hope they get the bugs worked out.

I purchased both a left and a right hand version of this reel in 2014. I have been using them both heavily since then and have not had a problem with either of them. Between the two of them I have caught several hundred walleye, a few wipers that were big enough that they took 20-30 minutes to land, and several 8-10 lb catfish. I like the fact that you can use either of them with one hand. Because it has the "twithcin' bar" and a reel release bar you can either release line or take in line with just one hand so you can troll with one rod and reel in each hand. This is the only reel that I know of that has that capability. It would be more convenient if the "twitchin' bar" were located side by side with the release bar (which is at the back of the reel) instead of on top of the reel. As it is currently designed it is difficult to reach with one's thumb. Another annoyance is that the way the "twitchin' bar" is currently constructed line from the reel will often loop around it when you are dropping a jig down. I also really like the "twitchin' bar" for netting fish. I often fish alone. With the net in one hand and the rod and reel in the other hand this feature makes it possible to take in line when a fish gets near the net. Often they will make another run at that moment and other reels require you to put the net down to reel in line. The drag is smooth. I like a baitcasting reel for vertical jigging because it doesn't twist your line when you are cranking the reel while the drag is slipping with a big fish like spin casting reels do.The price is reasonable. Unfortunately, one of my rod & reels went overboard recently and I have not been able to retrieve it so it looks like I will be buying another soon. These are good reels and with a few design modifications they could be even better.

I bought this reel two years ago and wanted another one but I could not find it. When I found it on amazon I was extremely happy! The twitching bar isn't very useful and it can get in the way but I just break the plastic piece off with a pair of pliers. Overall this is a great reel and my first one has held up to two years of abuse and a lot of big fish! Would definitely recommend!

Twitch bar broke the first day I used it. The reel still worked but I got it because I was interested in the twitch bar. Not with the money. The reels ok, if they take of the bar and make it a $40 reel then it would be great.

I don't have much to compare this to as this is my first and only baitcast reel. That being said, I've thoroughly enjoyed using this reel and found that it provided a great deal of fun in certain applications.

Only had a couple of chances to use it, but works great. Casts easier than my old reels and has a much quicker rewind speed. Took a little getting use to, but after that it's great.

I bought my son a Daiwa Viento several years ago. It was a few months before I could get it to him so, naturally, I broke it in. With braided line, I thought it was one of the sweetest baitcasters I ever handled. It got more distance with fewer backlashes than just about any other reel I've ever used. The Viento has since been discontinued but this one looks just like it except for the color. I am happy to say that, once it was adjusted properly, the Megaforce promises to be just as good. I've only used it once and spent half the trip getting the tension on the spool just right. Once there I was getting the smooth long casts I had hoped for. It's high retrieve ratio makes it good for fishing medium slow to burning the lure back. Haven't had a chance to test the drag but I imagine it will work just fine.
