Great marathon primer
I really enjoyed reading this book. I wish I had read it prior to my first, and only, marathon. The biggest tip the author gave that I totally agree with is pacing yourself. Great book.

Wow! Great book!
So I grabbed this book with minimal expectations but could not put it down once I started. I hope I can pace myself during my first marathon better than I placed myself through this useful tool!

A great one-stop resource to achieve sub 4hr
I really like this book. If you're a first time marathoner, you'll find everything here that you need to know about preparing and running a successful race and achieving your 4 hour goal. It's really great value too. The sections are laid out in a clear, logical structure and the components of the plan are well explained, without page upon page of science that you don't need.I'm not quite a novice. I run regularly, but in an unstructured manner. I've run a marathon before (4hr 15m) and I want to break 4 hours. There are so many plans out there, using different approaches and different terminology, that I frankly found it confusing and was struggling to build a plan I understood and felt comfortable with. I really felt this book was perfect for me and having read it, I feel confident that I will achieve the goal.Other reviewers have noted that you can find everything in this book elsewhere online. That's true, but the value here is having it in one place, where the content is presented end-to-end and the components of the plan are all designed to work together. I thought it was well worth a few pounds - oh and the author kindly responds to email questions too! Great value.

General advice for first timers will not specifically help with a 4hrs target
I maybe purchased this book without looking at it carefully. It is basically a good general introduction to running marathons. Although the title is the 4 hour marathon. it does not give any advice on what training to do to achieve this other that the training plan that you can download on the website for free.I have already run 10 marathons and so far not got one under the 4 hour mark. I was looking for some detailed training plans with paces to achieve etc to really help guide me through the process. However the book does not contain such guidance. just general advice about keep a constant speed and run at slightly quicker speed than 4hrs just in case. To be honest I knew this befor I purchased the book.

Confusing
It starts by talking to the point about under 4 hours marathon. And then after a few pages that is all forgotten and starts talking about running your first marathon. It talks about the race day without referencing the UNDER 4 HOURS that I suspect makes everyone buy this book.... I did run a few marathons and I wanted to improve my time. I was hoping this will help. It doesn’t unfortunately. If you are preparing for your first marathon then this is ok summary of what to prepare and what to expect. However brief....One more thing... it is very male focussed this book. I understand the author is a man. However when talking about kit and other things to consider in preparation and during the race there is nothing specific about women racing and training...Shame really as I was looking forward to reading it

First Class.
OK so not going for the 4 hours, just a bit longer, but very good useful info, well set out and easy to find what i was looking for. Will go for the under 4 hours next time. !! I hope.

More of a beginner's guide
The title of this book leads you to believe it's slightly more advanced than it is. There's nothing wrong with the content per se but it's all just basic stuff you'd easily find online. The only thing specific to sub 4hrs is that they calculate the pace you need to do to achieve it!
