Thinly Disguised Dig at You-Know-Who
This is just so funny! Young Ajay is best friend to Britain's Prime Minister, Joe Perkins, and when Ajay is appointed Ambassador to America he flies to New York, where he accidentally puts himself in the running for the Presidential election. His opponent is Hank James, who has weird hair, doesn't care about the environment and lives in a big building called Hank Towers. Who does that remind you of? Well, there are loads of laughs as Ajay tries to cope with the wrath of Hank, and I loved the whole thing; I'd like to read more by this amusing author.

Missed the mark for us
I passed this to my young niece who read it with her Mum, and this is how they feel about it: 12-year old Ajay, whilst on a visit to the USA, suddenly becomes President! How freaky is that! We thought this book looked appealing and the premise was fun but, for us, it really missed the mark. We found the style quite rambling and it took a while to get to the point. We knew from the front cover that the main character was a child but it seemed like a really laboured start to then make a big reveal. Throughout (well, as far as we got), we found the jokes quite laboured and over-the-top and some were missed by my 8 year-old because they were about the contrast between an adult and child in such a position and she doesnโt know what the adult would be like. She also found it too silly - she couldnโt suspend disbelief for the โmisunderstandingsโ that got him into that position. Perhaps we should have given it longer - it could be a slow burner - but I couldnโt persuade my daughter to continue (and itโs very rare for us to give up on a book).

Lighthearted funny book which my 8 year old enjoyed
Funny easy to read book that my 8 year old boy was very eager to read, and enjoyed. The story focuses on a boy named AJay who goes to America and somehow ends up running for president, with quite a bit of success! He had been running as his school class president, but taking on America is a whole new challenge which he takes in his stride, with plenty of funny scenes along the way. Itโs a light hearted read which is great for children that like funny or quirky books

Very funny. Couldn't put it down
My daughter loved this book. She has read a couple of other books by this author and this one did not disappoint. The author writes with a lot of wit and really seems to know children. My daughter did not find the story predictable and there was plenty to keep her interest. Ajay is the best friend of the UK Prime Minister as in the Accidental Prime Minister book by the same author. This book tells of Ajays journey to becoming President. My daughter recommends that you should read the Accidental Prime Minister first to fully understand the Accidental President. Although she thinks this book could stand alone too, she says it helps to know all the background from the first book. It would make a great gift for a kid if you gave them both books.

Approved by No 1 Grandson
My eldest grandson has loved all these Tom McGlaughlin books and this one did not disappoint at all. It kept him quiet and content for about two days, he consumes fiction he likes.
