Well written, comprehensive, and full of facts for the specially interested
This is a comprehensive description of the Maritime North East all the way to Greenland. Several wriiters have contributed to the book, many with highly personal experiences and opinions. The book covers history, archeology, wildlife, social issues, industry and trades and economic issues for each section of the coasts going north. When the book comes to Labrador and its different groups of inhabitants it starts to really become interesting. But with Labrador being inaccessible, scarsely populated and remote, it helps to have a little knowledge of history and geography before reading that part of the book.So even if I enjoyed the book, preparing for travel to Greenland, Labrador and Newfoundland, it is still a book for a special interest group.

Not a dry scholarly work, but a thoroughly entertaining overview.
Fascinating reading for those with an interest. Down to earth enough to keep your attention, intellectual enough to impart a fairly complete overview. I enjoyed every minute of it!

A stunning book
"Maine to Greenland" is a fascinating read by one of the world's authorities on the Arctic, Bill Fizhugh. Wilfred Richard's photography is outstanding. Far more depth than your average beautiful coffee table book.

Beautiful but at least one careless error
The book is gorgeous, and I may well purchase it (have looked through the book in a shop in Camden, Maine, 12 miles from where I live near the beautiful spot on the back cover). I posted this once on the Smithsonian website and it has somehow "disappeared" so repeating here."Interesting. I commented two days ago and it has been removed. I noted that the book is beautiful and I would consider buying it. However, I live in mid-coast Maine, just a few miles from the site pictured on the back cover of the book, which is also mentioned in the chapter on Maine. It is described as Mt. Baty. It is not. It is Mount Battie. B. A. T. T. I. E. Come on folks! You're the **Smithsonian** ! We love you, love the museums, the magazines, the books.... please, fact check. Spell check! I may yet buy the book, but please! I logged in with Disqus. I am trying again in case it was a Disqus glitch. Attempts to use FB to log in failed. Will comment on Amazon where presumably the comment won't be removed. "If not for this error I would give 5 stars. But it does make you wonder how many other errors there might be.....
