Not exactly, it lets you control devices that are not in the same room as the Fire Cube

The "extender" connects to the Fire TV Cube via a cable so, yes as long as you have a way to route the wire from the extender through the wall. As an aside, I have been very happy with the functionality of the extender. Prior to installing it (well, plugging it in to the Fire Cube :) ) I could not control my AV receiver which is behind a glass cabinet door. Now there are no issues (with controlling the AV receiver) and as an added benefit I can now control it (sound volume / mute) from over 200 feet away and without having to point the fire tv controller directly at the AV receiver. Prior to the purchase of the "cube" I had a Fire TV stick (4k MAX) and had to be within 10 ft and with a direct line of sight.
