I don't normally write reviews
I don't write reviews too often unless I feel strongly one way or another. In this case, I feel genuinely fortunate to have found this brand. Like... what? I recently had to replace a pair of first gen bluetooth headphones that did their job for a couple of years. I got another "highly rated" and "Amazon favorite" pair- the Phaiser BHS-750. I use bluetooth headphones for calls, music, podcasts, audiobooks, basically all d*mn day. I'm not audiophile but I appreciate a good set of headphones. Anyways that other pair was decent at best in terms of sound, and a POS in terms of quality. Specifically, they broke entirely within two weeks. Wouldnt charge or turn on. So I got around to researching again and was actually researching which headset to get for my new XBOX One X for online play of FPS... and RANDOMLY saw someone mention this brand with the sort of detail and enthusiasm you only see when someone is genuinely hyped on a brand. So I did my research and was reassured that KZ is not too good to be true, but is a diamond in the rough of the Chinese manufacturing landscape that truly goes above and beyond. I checked ReviewMeta to make sure these reviews werent out the horse's rear like I believe Phaisers to have been, and to my chagrin ReviewMeta through several warnings. However, upon discovering the bluetooth attachment and realizing I'd be able to kill two birds with one stone... I was interested enough to do some more research, manually reading through lots of reviews. (I'm annoyingly diligent, it even annoys me). Sure enough, the reviews seemed genuine in my opinion, as I'm sure you see too if you're reading these. So I rolled the dice and bought the ES4's and the bluetooth necklace thing (the newer version). Here's how I can sum up my experience so far: The hype did NOT disappoint. In fact, I'm thoroughly impressed despite my already hyped expectations. Already planning on recommending these to friends and families and will be buying these as gifts. Couple of PROS that I really appreciate: - ES4s obviously sound fantastic, as is required for a 5 star review. I mean these really are just beautiful in the canals. - They seat REALLY well. In shopping for bluetooth earbuds in the past, I wanted something that hooked on the ear in some way. Unfortunately, the only ones that do have corrupted reviews and bulky designs. This memory metal, IEM hook-over-ear design is literally perfect. It's low profile and extremely effective, both with the "stock" wire and the bluetooth necklace attachment, it simply feels comfortable and perfectly secure. - Construction is lightweight yet solid. The only other notes to mention is that having come from over-bassed headphones for a longtime, at first these seemed to be underpowered on the low HZ (yet defined in sound architecture). However, after a couple days of use, I realized it only seemed that way exactly because of what I mentioned above, I had been conditioned to listen to all sounds with way more bass than what was intended due to the first gen earbuds designed for idiots (PUGZ, terrible brand) that I had used for years. Now that I am accustomed to it, I appreciate hearing the music and sounds from videogames as they are meant to be heard. Like, I unequivocally prefer it because I understand it - and it sounds better. As a note from someone who deeply resents the corrupted, manipulated B.S. that the Amazon review system (along with just about every other review system) has degraded to: I have no affiliation with KZ or Yinoo beyond being a new customer, nor was I given any discounts or compensated for writing this in any way. I am just genuinely and thoroughly pleased with a GOOD company and want to help a GOOD company grow because it benefits us consumers. THANK YOU KZ FOR YOUR INTEGRITY! TL:DR buy these immediately if you're not satisfied I will personally refund you lol. They're amazing in every way from sound quality to fit to value.

Best bang for your buck
Let me start off by saying I'm not a hardcore audiophile. That said, I have a humble entry-level turntable setup so I appreciate good sound. These earphones have a good soundstage. Very neutral. Bass isn't overwhelming . Vocals are clear. I'm not very technically sound about the highs, lows, and mids but I can say that it is very central in it's sound, for lack of my technical terminology. Outside sound is very muffled which can make this good monitors for bands. Construction is decent for the price. I'm not sure about the shell because transparent plastics are usually weaker but it's been good so far. I like the braided cables but can be a pain if it's been tangled. Also wish there was a clip or a sliding binder but might not be possible with braided cables. The package only includes the earphones itself and 3 rubber tips. These headphones are actually comfortable with the provided rubber tips. The soft over ear arcs are soft and pliable which are comfortable compared to my MEEs which have a stiff over-ear arcs which can get irritating after a while. Overall, I would recommend this for tight budget people who want a good pair of in-ear headphones. Time will tell if these hold up in the long run but for now, I'm happy with these. Edit: the only gripe I have with the mic version is that you can't play/pause, skip/restart tracks.

Well balanced but may be an uncomfortable fit. Comparison to Android AKGs & Standard Apple Earphones
Basic Apple Earphones - Bass is strong (but it could be too strong and "poppy" for some people's taste). Fuller sound than the AKG, but overall it sounds as if you are listening to something from another room, like something is in the way. AKG (These came with my S10 note) - Generally opposite performance to the Apple earphones. Bass is weak, but treble comes through clearer. (You would need to really shove these deep in your ear to feel the bass in the back. Foam ear tips help alleviate this problem, so if you already like the AKGs but still think the bass could be more powerful, maybe try some foam ear tips on them.) KZ ES4 - Balanced just right while also being clear. Bass and treble can both be heard clearly without any of them overpowering each other. With the previous earphones I mentioned (AKG and Apple), I would need to carefully adjust the equalizer settings on my devices, but with the KZ ES4, I think it's perfectly fine at default (but I do raise the high ends very slightly to an almost minuscule amount for my taste, just to illustrate that they are just great out of the box). Do not expect to get headphone sound quality from these though. If you want that, then get headphones. Negatives - The only reason I wouldn't recommend these to everyone is that the shape of them can be a big turn off and can actually be reasonably uncomfortable as the shape of your ears may not be compatible with the shape design of the KZs. I actually found them to be uncomfortable just in my right ear, but my left ear feels just fine. I think my right ear canal may be oddly different in shape , which is why I could easily see this being uncomfortable for others. I would 100% recommend these ONLY IF they had a more standard design that most people are used to, but I would recommend these if they were aware of this disclaimer and didn't mind trying them out themselves. Minor details: The microphone for the KZ ES4 is poor in that it picks up noise easily, so static can clearly be heard in a recording, but I think the recording comes across much fuller than the AKG's microphone, which has a "tinny" sound on playback, but the AKG doesn't pick-up background noise as easily while also being able to record voices more clearly. There is also just one button on the KZ mic for playing and pausing music, where other earphones have at least three for volume up/down and pause/play. Overall microphone-wise, the KZ ES4's mic is functional by usual standards and should not normally be a deal breaker, since it's not the main focus of the product. The cable does feel nice, but also flimsy at the same time. Because it's not a threaded, they can tangle way more often than the AKGs. Noise cancelling: Don't expect these to cancel noise through the same method that noise-cancelling headphones do through a microphone. Instead, the KZ does "noise-blocking" in how, if you wear them correctly with the correct ear tip size, low noises such as a running fan can be deafened just a bit. Kind of the same effect as earplugs, or foam ear tips. In short, the KZ ES4s deliver clear and balanced bass and treble tones, which is great at such a low price. The only possible turn-off is the shape is not for everyone. (I've only had them for a week, but if they broke somewhere down the line, I'd probably buy another pair as I'm really satisfied with the sound.)

If you like how they look and want good sound quality, these are the IEMs for you
The KZ ES4 earbuds look, feel, and sound great - especially for the price. I've been using them for a few months now and they're still going strong. My only complaint (which is more of a nitpick) is that the cable had a very pungent and unpleasant odor when I first opened up the package. The strange odor vanished rather quickly, however, and there's literally nothing else bad I have to say regarding the product and user experience. As more of a neutral comment, the pair I got looks slightly different than the photos - instead of a vibrant red plate inside the earbuds, they're basically just translucent green through and through, but I like how it looks so I don't consider this a negative - just a drawback of online shopping. With all that said, these are by far my favorite pair out of all the earbuds I've owned over the years - not just because of the sound quality, but also the build quality and style. I love the chain-like braided cable, the translucent green shell, and the fact the cable can be replaced if it gets damaged. Definitely one of the best IEMs you can get for 20 bucks. Some advice for first-time IEM owners: make sure to clean the rubber tips and also clean your ears before and after using these earbuds. Also, be mindful of your surroundings if you decide to get a proper seal by pushing them in all the way. These earbuds effectively become earplugs and will cancel noise very well even while listening at a low volume if you wear them properly, which can be potentially dangerous if you're using them in conditions which benefit from situational awareness - like while doing outdoor sports or walking around at night. In such conditions I would recommend wearing your earbuds a bit loose and raising the volume just a bit to accommodate. Remember: safety is more valuable than extra bass.

Great first impression
I only just got these, but so far I really like them. I usually use AKG, Sony, and V-Moda circumaural studio monitors for music listening and earbuds for walks, runs, or working out. These aren't on par with good over-the-ear headphones, but they're awesome for earbuds. Bass is present and clear, but not over-assertive. Mids are a tiny bit thin, but otherwise good. Highs are very clear, and the hiss of a snair drum or certain consonant sounds (s, f, etc.) come through a little stronger than usual. My favorite part is that there is a sense of space the the sound. Different vocals and instruments are distinguishable, and it feels like they are spread out in a small room. It's not the big soundstage feeling I get from headphones, but it's far better than I'm used to hearing from an earbud. Mine fit pretty well right out of the box. They get mildly uncomfortable after an hour or two of wear, and some foam tips would probably be a good investment for both comfort and sound. I have rather large ears, which may be part of why these big things fit so well. So I'm very impressed so far. With some equalizer adjustments and foam tips, I expect these will get even better. But right out of the box, they sound like something worth more than $20. They beat some old Beats I have, and get close to some Sennheisers I tried iut. One last note: the 90 degree 3.5 mm jack on the included cable doesn't fit my phone of it is in a case. But it works fine with a headphone amp, computer, or phone without case. If these break or change with use, I'll post and update.

Good luck finding better quality for this price
I have purchased three pairs of these. Yes, three. The first pair worked great. Quite durable too, but not durable enough to withstand a cat that thought the cable was a toy. Bought another pair but I wasn't paying attention and accidentally bought the pair without a mic. So now I am waiting for my third pair to arrive, which was scheduled to arrive today but was delayed a day during shipping - not an uncommon occurrence, nothing to be worried about. Now I'm not exactly an "Audiophile" nor am I a musician, nor do I work in any related field. I am, however, a music enjoyer. Although these are marketed as in-ear monitors, they really are perfect all-round wired earbuds. The audio quality of the mic is surprisingly great for the price. The sound quality of the buds themselves (again, not an expert on audio) is what I would describe as clear and "normalized." What I mean by that is the entire audible range sounds very balanced. Not too bassy, treble doesn't overpower mids. Having used various other brands - both wired and wireless - I can say that these have little bias towards any one range and I've even noticed parts in songs I hadn't noticed before because it's not being drowned out by the bass. If you're looking for the best bang for your buck, and you're on a budget, these will suit your needs exactly. I have yet to find anything that comes close to the same sound quality for under $30. And if you want that quality in bluetooth earbuds then good luck finding anything under the triple digit price point.

Dont think twice, just buy it!
I've been picky about sound quality since me teens. I'm 45 now, ears aren't as good as they used to be, can't hear above 14kHz but I still know good clean sound when I hear it. I listen to rock, metal, electronic, all files are high rez/SACD DSD if possible and are played through an LGV20 which is well known for possessing a good DAC/headphone amp. I bought these and the Shure SE215's at the same time. Was going to use the KZ's as a back up/beater pair. I was shocked that I actually prefer the $20 KZ's over the $100 Shures. The KZ's seem to be more sensitive (louder) but do it with less distortion. I like the cord and fit, mic is clear as well. Just buy them, you wont regret it. Edit Sept 2019. Needed to buy another pair after they were dunked in water. Accidentally bought the EST instead. Compared to the ES4 the EST is inferior, the cable that comes with the EST uses a more flexible wire might sound good but they tangle easily. They also share one ground for both earbuds, the ES4s cable has separate grounds for each earbud. An annoying noise is induced on the mic, sounds like RF from the phone. Bought another set of ES4s, night and day with cable, mic and sound quality. Found that putting a dab of CA(super glue) on the edge of the plugged in two pin connector keeps the earbud in place. Guess hot melt glue would also work well. CA is easily removed with a sharp knife. I also tried the KZ Bluetooth adapter. It's OK... Range is very limited, just putting my pbone(and several others) in my pocket would kill the signal. MIC also wasn't as clear to others.

Another Bargain Find from KZ
In case you missed the Chinese hi fi revolution, you can now buy high quality In Ear Monitors from various manufacturers for under $20 and KZ, or Knowledge Zenith, a Chinese earbud maker, leads the way in many categories of these bargain IEMs. The KZ ES4 reviewed here is a slight evolution from a whole line of similar looking KZ buds, although each generation seems to tweak the driver alignment somewhat, usually making subtle improvements in the sound signature. In the case of the KZ ES4, the sound has taken a step forward over some of the previous models, like the KZ ATE, one of the earlier and well reviewed products which I also happen to own and used for comparison. I played the units straight from my iPhone and also through a FiioQ1 MarkII DAC that mates well with the iPhone and jacks up the sound quality somewhat. The newer KZ ES4 boast a dual driver alignment with both a balanced and dynamic driver to handle bass and uppers, while the older model had one dynamic driver. KZ now makes with units with multiple drivers in them, but more is not always better. In this case the dual driver alignment is an excellent configuration, maintaining the very strong, sometimes astounding, deep and authoritative bass these units are known for but also improving the refinement of the mids and upper highs. Don't get me wrong, the ES4 is still very much a basshead's unit, with a warmer sound signature and nice but not absolutely precise mid and upper frequencies. Much of the public seems to favor this approach and if you read other reviews you will find that KZ has many ardent fans. I tend toward a more balanced approach myself, but I can see the improvement in this model from the older KZs I own, especially in vocal presentation, which seems more forward and smoother, and upper register highs, which are simply cleaner than the earlier model. It is overall a very nice, warm balanced sound, almost like listening to a good tube amplifier over a solid state unit. I am not a big fan of the form factor of the ES4s, although they are beautiful to behold in their glimmering and colorful plastic casing. They have a braided double helix design cable with reinforcement near the ears and, as a bonus, the bi-pin cables are removable and therefore replaceable. However, the entire package tends to be large and somewhat heavy and if you are Small Ear Person you might not find these comfortable or wearable for the long term. It is also tricky to get a good ear seal with the three provided ear tips. But with a little work and break in, I expect most people are going to find these a very strong addition to the already interesting KZ earbud lineup. I don't think they are perfect, but have to recommend them strongly.

Best IEM's I've owned
I've had my ES4's for over 18 months at this point - never had a more reliable or better sounding pair of cheap in-ears. Really comfy with some third-party foam tips, but the rubber tips they come with are decent too. I would use them plugged straight into my phone for backing tracks during drumming, the little headphone out in my Samsung Galaxy A50 was enough to let me hear these over my acoustic drumkit in a poorly treated room. They run on low power at high volume, and sound so great for the $40ish price tag. In my opinion they look cool too 👍
