Amazing Disk Drive Adapter
I am amazed by the capability of this drive adapter. The drive in my old Thinkpad laptop was dying and this very inexpensive adapter with a 2.0 USB interface allowed me to clone the failing laptop drive to the new drive in 30 minutes.

Adapter has female USB-C port for additional power
Review title says it all. A lot of these miscellaneous sata adapters don't have input for additional USB power, but this one does. USB-C port is way more durable than anything micro USB could offer. I can't count how many times I've bent a female micro USB port and caused intermittent connectivity issues. I don't have that problem with USB-C, so I don't forsee having that problem with this.2.5 hdd case was a nice bonus, and I like the design used. Breathable, shockproof, and stackable. Takes a little bit of patience to remove the drive from the case, but that's still better than something that could just slide out like teflon. These cases are worth checking out firsthand.

It just does the job. The hardest part is plugging it in.
I had a 10Tb internal drive lying around with old data I had backed up and then forgot. So it was the perfect way to test this adapter. I've typically used a device that looks like a toaster where you insert drives like slices of bread. This one is a superior solution due to it's compact nature. You can add it to your tool kit if you're a mobile IT technician or you're working from home. After plugging in the power connector to the adapter, I realized my desktop lacks a USB-C connector to accept the output from this adapter. I was about to get out of my chair to fish out a type C to type A adapter. But before standing up, my curiosity turned to my phone on the desk. Would I be able to connect a massive 10Tb 3.5" drive to my phone? Why yes I could. Not just connect but transfer data at a pretty remarkable speed from my phone to the drive. I'm impressed. This device will not only accept desktop-style 3.5" internal drives, though. You can also use it for laptop 2.5" drives. This device could come in handy for cloning drives or for making backups to external drives. I'm really glad to have this in my back of tricks.Tip: The included power "wall wart" uses a type C connector. Which is just fine. But the power supply is 12 volts. So don't dare use a phone charger to power this adapter! (Phone chargers are 5 volt.)

Often doesn't work.
The plastics are thin and the power adapter is bulky. I wish it would power a HDD without the power cord. It does read drives and transfers fast, but the flimsy construction makes me feel like it will not last for long. If you just need one for a few uses I'm sure it will be fine. I repair computers for a living and wanted a travel version that I can keep in the truck. This one fits the bill, but needs to be protected.***EDIT***Almost every time I try to use this to copy files, it gets 20-30% through and locks up. I have to disconnect and reconnect it. It's trash.

It just works.
ORICO offers several variants of this adapter. My experience is with the UTS2-3C (USB-C, external power supply not included, shortest lead) variant.I've a small pile of disused SATA-III SSDs. I use this ORICO adapter to: (1) retrieve data stranded on these disused drives (without the effort of mounting the drive in a full enclosure), and (2) create reasonably performant "experimental" drives to test secondary operating system installations. While limited to USB 3.0 speed, this ORICO adapter has done everything I've asked of it -- boot (MBR and EFI) and reliably read/write at speed. The adapter has an auxiliary power port (USB-C, 5v) but I've had no need to use it.MacOS 13.0.1 reports: ASMT105x: Vendor ID: 0x174c (ASMedia Technology Inc.); Product ID: 0x55aa; Version: 1.00; Speed: Up to 5 Gb/s; Manufacturer: ASMT.Disclaimer: I received this product to evaluate and review through the Amazon Vine program.
