Ordered 2 one was DOA
One of two had an issue with the network port and would not display via HDMI unless the supplied USB C cable was used. Used on Macbbook Pros, one that purchased this year, the other from last year, and both are running HS 10.13.6. Tried the old and new drivers on startechs website both did not get the network port working. I did get it to change the link light color, like it was getting data, but after a few seconds it would flip off and only a dimly orange light is visible. Returning the broken one today for an exchange with hopes that this was just a fluke, as most of the startech items I have purchased have been stellar without much failures or DOAs.

Muy conforme con el orden que tengo en mi escritorio, ademas de que ya no tengo que estar sacando y guardando cables al llegar a la oficina, muy recomendado.

HDMI does not work
In my experience Startech products are usually reliable and robust. At first this USB-C Dock seemed to be of typical Startech standards - but then, after changing many usb and hdmi cables, I realized that the HDMI port did not work. Not with a USB-A or USB-C connection cable. Not with basic or 4k hdmi cables. I tried it on different laptops, different brands, different monitors, but without success. The monitors do not even recognize a connection of any sort.I installed the Startech drivers and connectivity tools, restarted computers...still no joy.All the other ports work fine. For my particular AV project the HDMI connectivity was the primary requirement, and so i was tempted to give this hub a 1-star. But I've taken into account that this may be an anomaly (except for the other reviews citing various port issues) and that my priority is not necessarily that of everyone.

Good USB-C dock. Used with Intel NUC. Recommended
I have previous experience with the StarTech brand (I've used their DVI and HDMI KVMs), and have had good experiences in the past, so I decided to try the StarTech.com USB C Dock with HDMI.To evaluate it, I used this device on an HP laptop, and an Intel i7 NUC. Both the HP laptop were able to detect and use all of the devices, but I was not able to test PD charging since the laptop doesn't support it. The device also does not support PD charging straight off of the USB-C port.Physically, the unit is very small, with roughly the footprint of an old 3.5" floppy disc (remember those?) at about an inch tall. With 4 USB 3.0 ports (1 front, 3 back), an HDMI port, and an Ethernet port, this dock is equipped well enough to make a workstation out of a laptop. Everything works, which is a plus. The small size of the unit works against it a bit... when fully equipped with all of the cables (especially the PSU and HDMI cables), the dock lasks the weight to keep it in place. If you want the unit in a semi-fixed position, I recommend using a square of Velcro to hold it in place.Something worth mentioning is the power supply. It's HUGE. Since the dock supports 85 watt USB-C Power Delivery, has 4 USB 3.0 ports (about 1 watt, each), and has on-board electronics, it's no wonder that the power supply is a beefy 100 watt Chicony unit. If you don't intend to charge/run laptop from the USB-C, you may want to find a different product with a lower power capacity (to get a smaller PSU).If you have a laptop that does support USB-C PD, this could be the perfect device for you. If you don't, the PD functionality may be a bit of an overkill. If you like multi-monitor setups, and don't want to have to plug and unplug one of the displays from your laptop, you'll want to consider a different product with multiple DisplayPort or HDMI ports. If you are happy with the port compliment on this device, you will likely be happy with this purchase. Recommended.

Simplifies connecting a newer laptop in an office environment
Do you miss the old days when you brought your laptop to work and with a comforting "thunk" snapped that 8 pound beast into its desktop docking station? It felt like switching into "work mode". For the last 5-10 years or so, docking stations have become really rare (or non-existent if you're like me and switched to Macbooks).Complicating this even further is the advent of USB-C only laptops like the new Macbook Pro, where EVERYTHING requires a dongle. My desk has become a cluttered mess of wobbly dongles and finicky connections - I'm running two 27" monitors, a USB wireless mouse, SD card reader, hard-wired Ethernet, and USB thumb drives. Prior to getting this device this required at least two separate dongles that hung off my Macbook, putting strain on the USB-C ports and constantly flickering on and off when I repositioned my Macbook. This device is brilliant - its the "one ring to rule them all" and it tucks out of the way on the back of the desk and connects with a SINGLE USB-C port, keeping all the clutter away from your laptop. My only complaints:1. The HDMI connection (for external display) will ONLY work if you use the included USB-C cable. I tried two other high-quality USB-C connectors and neither would pass the video signal to this box and to my display.2. I wish there was either a second HDMI (non-mirrored) or a second USB-C port on the box. In order to run two external displays, I still need to attach a USB-C to HDMI adapter directly to my Macbook. Granted, not many people run TWO external displays off a laptop, so this may not affect most people.3. A second USB-C port would also be great for adding an external drive. With this device you're limited to USB 3.0 drives, which on a Mac are slower.
