A guide to children with respect to insulin
This book is a reminder to children and other people alike about how eating too much candy makes them get diabetes and the importance of taking insulin to fight diabetes. My favorite part of this book is where a little girl with diabetes gets an injection of insulin from a doctor, and doesn't scream even when the injection takes place. As a matter of fact, just for being brave during her insulin injection, she gets a bowl of goldfish as a reward.

Purchased for my "Brave" Girl
We purchased this book with others to try to help explain to our six-year-old what was going on with her body after she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Many friends and relatives called her brave for handling all of it so well. We loved this story. She took it to school and her teacher read it to her class so that her classmates could have an understanding of what was happening with her. Now she is asking for the special gift mentioned in the story (I won't spoil it for you) for her birthday this year. Great read. Loved the section in the back of the book where the child can draw their own story!

Positive and uplifting - highly recommended
My seven yr old daughter really enjoys this book. It helps her look at her diabetes as a strength, or at least something that can stand her apart from the other kids in a positive way.

Wonderful book
I bought this for my 7-year old granddaughter who came down with Type 1 Diabetes so that she would have a book to read that let her know that she wasn't alone in dealing with this disease.

Not a good story.
First of all, it reads like it wants to give a message to grown ups, but says it in simple "kid-like" language. I'd guess that the author isn't a real children's book writer, but had something to say and thought this would work. I agree with the other review, that it is not the best message. It's also...really, really weird. Who on earth can imagine a school nurse coming into a classroom and saying that every kid in the class is going to have an injection of medicine that day ?!?!? That's just bizarre. And why would the kid with diabetes get a prize for getting their injection first? What is that supposed to mean--that because the girl is used to getting her insulin injections that somehow that makes her better/more brave when it comes to taking other injections? That's supposed to be the uplifting message here? This is just a weird book, with a weird, garbled message. And the illustrations are cute enough, but not really professional--a lot of the people look scary, and the illustrator is also not familiar with diabetes gear. The needles pictured in this book look MUCH bigger and scarier than the real ones that kids with diabetes get!I haven't been able to find a good book about diabetes, and based on the title, I had hoped this would be a good one, but it is not. I'm going to see if Amazon will accept a return on it.
