Hanamaruki Mutenka Koji Miso (Additive-free) 750g

Really pleased with this miso paste. The flavour is rich, savoury, and properly deep without tasting harsh or overly salty. It blends well into soups, noodles, broths, and sauces, and a little goes a long way, so the tub lasts ages. It gives dishes that proper umami kick and makes even simple meals taste much better. I’ll definitely be buying it again.

I've been on a Miso binge since I bought this product. It is perfect for making any sort of noodle based broth. You get a lot of it for the money.

This is a very big tub of miso from Japan and is quite balanced and mild in flavour. It is between the sweetness of white miso and the sharpness of red miso, so is very versatile in that you can use it for various Japanese dishes. I like using it for miso ramen, simmering vegetables and soup dishes. It also makes a great sauce if you mix it with a bit of water and use it for silken tofu. The price is very reasonable, it is one of my favourite miso pastes.

It is ok, very salty though, quite coarse as it has bits but not necessarily a bad thing. I have tasted much better quality as I have been working as a chef in asian quisine. I don't make recommendations, do your homework.

The best miso paste for me.

I've tried a few misos from Amazon as I use it daily in soups & dressings as a salt alternative. This is one of my faves and I've re-ordered. It has a nice chunky texture and delivers an umami flavour punch. Slightly on the salty side hence 4 stars not 5. Good value.

My family certainly isn't disappointment. It's good quality, good taste, good volume. It's versatile though I mostly use it to add that delicious umami miso touch to my broths.

Good quality and texture

Keeps forever. Aside from the salt content it is quite healthy. Mine came with the lid a bit broken but it has kept just fine in the fridge in a re-used ziplock for probably around a year despite that so definitely worth keeping around if you're trying to get good at making JP cuisine.

Love this for miso soup

UPDATES: I’ve now had a chance to compare the differences between my usual miso paste and this one. My local grocery store was finally able to get my regular paste in stock. Now that I’ve had both, I LOVE THIS ONE more…I appreciate its earthiness, particles of soy and pungent flavour over the slightly sweeter, milder other product. It costs more but no matter. I will try to find it elsewhere for less cost though. Something this healthy should be more affordable. Somewhat earthier than my usual brand but still very tasty. Given the insane prices of any miso paste these days, I bought this one for 250 ml more than my usual brand and for the same 'insane' price. Not used to the grainier version this one is but do love the flavour for my miso soups. Will begin using it for other umami flavoured dishes.
