Cloud Gateway Max, Finally, a UniFi Gateway That Just Gets Out of the Way
I don’t usually write reviews, but this gateway deserves one. I replaced my previous UniFi gateway with the Cloud Gateway Max, and the difference was immediate and dramatic. This thing is an absolute beast in the best way possible , not flashy, not complicated, it just does its job flawlessly. Setup was painless. Firmware update, basic config, and I was online in minutes. Once installed, it completely removed the bottlenecks I didn’t even realize I was fighting. Paired with a U7 Pro AP, I’m now seeing wired‑class speeds over Wi‑Fi. On my iPhone 15 Pro Max, I’m consistently pulling ~1.0–1.1 Gbps down and ~950 Mbps up over Wi‑Fi, which honestly still blows my mind. The biggest win for me is headroom. With the Cloud Gateway Max: The router CPU never feels stressed IDS/IPS can stay enabled without killing throughput 2.5 GbE links actually matter and are fully utilized Latency stays low even under load This gateway finally feels like it’s built for modern fiber and modern APs. It doesn’t try to be an all‑in‑one gimmick — no built‑in Wi‑Fi, no unnecessary bloat, just a rock‑solid, high‑performance routing core. I also appreciate how quiet it is, both literally and figuratively. No fan noise, no random reboots, no weird behavior. It just sits there and works. That’s exactly what a gateway should do. If you’re running: Gigabit or faster fiber Wi‑Fi 6E / Wi‑Fi 7 access points Or you’ve ever wondered why your UniFi setup “should be faster than this”… This is probably the missing piece. Bottom line: The Cloud Gateway Max finally lets the rest of my UniFi gear stretch its legs. It removed every bottleneck, stabilized my network, and delivered the best Wi‑Fi performance I’ve ever had at home. I genuinely love this gateway, and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again. Highly recommended.

Great gear from UI
This is a great little router. I have all Ubiquiti gear in my house and this was a nice upgrade in that I get a unifi controller for the wifi APs as well as a simple NVR for the handful of cameras I have around the house as well. It's a perfect fit for my ecosystem. Had it up and running in less than 20 mins. The only kinda eyebrow raise it got out of me was with it's on board speed test. I have a 1gb symmetrical fiber connection to my ISP. On my desktop computer running behind this thing, it shows ~960Mbps in both directions. But when tested from the router itself it shows like 600 down / 900 up. Not sure what that's all about....

Quality Equipment & Great Design What Else Can You Ask For?
I'm using this primarily for Ubiquiti cameras. I like it! It wasn't too hard to set up. I think it seems to do a good bit of the setup itself. I like that design of this system. My stuff is on my stuff, not up on a cloud. When you want to view the cameras, it connects pretty quickly. I'm switching from Eufy cameras through Apple HomeKit. That system has been getting worse with every “upgrade". It is now very slow to connect. Many times it would say: "not responding". Then it usually captured events after the fact. You would see the people walking away, not up to the camera. The Ubiquiti system allows you to set how many seconds before the motion is captured and how many seconds after the motion is over. There are many other features and adjustments you can set. The app is well designed and best of all, it WORKS!

Find out your needs.
Had E*ro devices. Have a large yard with many IOT devices. The Eero couldn't handle it. Eero has amazing WiFi 6 and its mesh is fantastic. However it has one major flaw. You have zero control over the network functionality. Step into the world of Ubiquiti. I had an Edge 4 router doing the heavy lifting. Now I've ditched the Edge (more of an enterprise product) for the world of UniFi. I recommend this system 10000%. My internet provider was failing numerous times throughout the day. Now I can track these outages and actually troubleshoot my system. Back to the UniFi. Look up some videos on it... it's amazing. You will have to bite the bullet and spend a couple bucks to get your system up and running correctly but it's dope. I have the gateway, 1 managed switch and 4 access points. Everything works perfectly. The iOS app is fantastic and the web interface is clean and easy to manage. The gateway itself it small and has a few ports that can be configured for VLANs etc. incredibly powerful little machine. I bought the 512GB model which will offer some NVR capability when I upgrade to Ubiquiti cameras. Unfortunately the NVR is only compatible with Ubiquiti cameras. Would 10/10 buy again.

The near perfect small business gateway
I bought this at the recommendation of my company's director of IT, for my wife's new book store. I know my way around networking pretty well, and I have a firewalla at home. The Ubiquiti is so much easier to administer and honestly a cheaper price than my Firewalla Gold. It has solid features for a small business such as captive portal which is extremely customizable ( I recommend getting a cert for it though, as otherwise it shows as http or triggers trust warnings), and the web console is perfect for our needs. Because it can run the full Ubiquiti stack, it can be used as an NVR when paired with Ubiquiti cameras. The logs are easy to parse and being able to see what the usage flow is over the course of time will help us see another metric of how many people are in the shop and when. Overall this is a wonderful tool and I when it comes time to replace my home firewall, I will go with Ubiquiti.

Easy but professional and fast
Very nice and reasonable price. ChatGPT suggested I get it to improve my mesh network setup. And boy did it. I can get 800-900 Mbps from several places on my cell phone and 200-400 almost everywhere else. Easy to setup with nice menu system.

I like the gateway max don't get me wrong but a few gripes: Gateway runs warm and can get hot under load SSD came with 209 power on hours which seems more than the standard factory test US plug - I know this is because it was imported but could have included a UK clover Fits nicely in my comms cabinet shelf and Unifi OS is a stable experience with a smooth setup. If the price was similar I'd just buy a UGC fibre.
