Greatest Hits (2020 Versions)

Timed to go along with a tour to celebrate 30 years of Therapy? (delayed thanks to Covid) this is a great collection of their best known tracks, re-recorded over what must have been a busy day at Abbey Road studios. Nothing sounds rushed but the semi-live format gives the songs great energy. James Dean Bradfield joins in from the Manic's Cardiff studio with vocals and guitar on Die Laughing. Rather than falling between two stools, the whole album pulls off the trick of working as a greatest hits collection for the casual Therapy fan but is worth buying even if you have all the original versions given the re-recording.The 2 CD set comes with a bonus album of live tracks, one from each album recorded from live shows near the time of release (except Jude the Obscene from the 1995 Infernal Love album which was recorded at a show from December 2015). Recording quality of all are pretty good, taken from the mixing desk.

20数年前、ほぼ30年前。私は高校生でした。時代はポストグランジの世界的なアパシーに包まれていました。「どこへも行けない、行くところもない」なんて思っていた典型的な思春期に出会った「Nowhere」。まさかね、コロナウイルスの夏に再録バージョンで聞くとは夢にも思わなかったです。My 2020 summer plan: Going Nowhere。失われた30年の時代にまだ閉塞感を感じることになる。プロデューサーがクリス・シェルダンのころとはさすがに変わった音作りです。あのパシパシカンカンのドラムが普通の音になりました。聞きやすいといえば聞きやすい。でもちょっと物足りない。代わりにベースがブリブリ言い出します。①のTeethgrinderから圧があります。ギターは相変わらずのパリパリいうアンディのギターです。ちょっと音がこもってるかな？という分析をしているとさっさと全曲が終わります。でも爽快感はやはりさすがというか。ほとんどの曲が全盛期のものなので、当時テレビ神奈川（TVK）のミュートマを見てた人にはヒットする曲があると思います。ちょっとだけマニックスのジェームズが混ざりますが、ほんとちょっとだけ。同じネガティビティを持つ人々だから共鳴するものがあったのですかね。初めてTherapy?を聞く人にもおすすめです。普通の「暗さ」とはどういうものかわかります。今は「陰キャ」っていうのかな。クルマで聞くと、「帰ってから首でもつってみようかな」という気分になるのでおすすめしません。

Brand new recordings of songs from throughout their career and a second CD of live songs recorded from all over the place and put together by bassist the Evil Priest. Best of compilations aren't necessary for fans, as they generally have most if not all of the songs, but to re-record them is a novel idea, and on the whole, the updated versions are excellent and energetic. They were recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios with producer Chris Sheldon. The reworking of Husker Du's Diane is blisteringly good, and James Dean Bradfield from the Manics lends his voice and guitar playing to a great version of Die Laughing. As a fan of the band for nearly their whole career I am obviously biased, but yeah, buy it.

ガッカリです。前に出したベスト盤のリレコーディングだけど前のベスト盤の出来に遠く及ばない作品。音もそんなに大きくないし。これ買うくらいならセカンドアルバム［トラブルガム］のデラックス盤と前述のベストをお勧めします。この二作品は最高傑作です。聴かないと人生損してると同じ。
