Practical Soul Contact for Advanced Humanity
First, let me say that the audio cassttes convey Eckhart Tolle's message more clearly and personally in his own words better than the book can. The information conveyed, although sounding easy-stilling the mind and being in the NOW (as opposed to the past and future thinking)is not easy to achieve and requires practice and repitition (which the audio cassettes provide).Secondly, the book and cassettes are helpful to advanced humanity who have already achieved mental and personality development (most people have not) and also presupposes that there is some spiritual devellopment from previous lives and are now discontent with the mind/personality and materialism of the lower three worlds (physical, emotional and mental)to serve as a catalyst in the transformation/spiritual advancement. This is the same error people make when learning Buddhism (no mind) which is for avanced souls to fully undertake to be of value and most people on the spiritual path should start with spirituality meditations/practices such as Bhakti yoga (devotional/emotional plane transmutation after achieving the physical plane discipline/transmutation of Hatha yoga and before attempting the mental plane discipline of Raja yoga or Buddhism or the "Power of Now").We are all evolving (at different levels)first,in the material world and then the spiritual path and should know where we stand on it to continue our development-first in the lower worlds of mental and personality development (we all have developed physical and emotional bodies) and then in the spiritual realm of transmuting the lower into the higher (the spiritual initiations achieved through effort, time, and different spiritual meditations/practices to hasten them). The womb recapitulates the previous stages of mankind (fish, amphibious, reptilian, etc.) and then we recapitulate our development from previous lives when we are born (physical, emotional and then mental and finally personality which integrates the lower three if we have achieved that in previous lives and evolved to that point). Finally, the spiritual stages are recapitulated (usually beginning in our 30's if we have advanced/evolved that far previously and are reay to pick up where we left off). We can then hasten our spirtual development by undertaking a more rigorous campaign of meditations, learning spiritually at that point.

Good book, terrible audio version
The book exists and is quite good for many people. But when offering an audio version of the book to the public, they failed miserably. The book appears to be read by at least two voices, the author and another person, but their reading is so dull that they might as well have been one and the same. In contrast, the Seven Habits of Successful People is read by the author, and surely it helps that the author is a known conference speaker. The energy that Steven a Covey puts in the reading of his book makes it memorable, and I strongly recommend anyone looking for a good self help audiobook to get it. In contrast, the dull monotonal reading of The Power of Now voids the book of any value. If you are interested in its content get the paper version.

All you need.
All you really need is this one book, Tolle's first, and which says it all. The audio is a wonderful complement and actually I listen to it much more than I read the book. Play it every night and the words begin to sink in to your consciousness. Tolle's voice is so soothing that I also use it as an aid to help me sleep - the best cure for insomnia I have found! The only problem is the tapes are very long and several now dont play properly. I am hoping that the CDs will be made available again soon. I have several other Tolle audios and books, but really they are unnecessary; the Power of Now is the definitive book which can be read again and again and again. I would recommend the book and the unabridged audio of the book, and you wont need anything else.

Peace Be Still
I have read/listened to and contemplated this book at least 20 times. It is a great companion to any spiritual seeker.

There is a spiritualn teaching for all
To those who are searching, "You are here to enable the devine purpose of the universe to unfold that is how important you are" these words never meant so much to me until I read this book.We must remember that everyone is at a differant point in their journey. After reading the various reviews, it is appadrent that there are many who are not ready for what Eckhart is bringing forth. If the NOW does not speak to you, then lay it aside and try it again in a year. I have read hundreds of spiritual books from the Kabbala to a course in miracles. I have now read the power of now 7 times, and listened to it 4 times on audio. His aproach has helped me to understand other teachings. Whenever I am at odds with the world I listen to his audio and find my center. Each time I find somthing that my Ego would not accept before. I beleive he is very specific in the techniqes to quiet the mind. The "mind has become the master when it was meant to be the tool" To stop the endless chatter of the mind is Eckharts teaching. He even states that this is the purpose of meditation.Would you not like to have your entire day be a meditation filled with peace. His technique and message are there if we listen with our being, not our mind. We live in eternity; The past and future emotions, and thoughts overshadow this precious gift - the now. Read the other books but make this a must for your bookshelf. At some point in "time" you will find what every one is looking for. I personly have more peace in my life by practicing the power of now. As Eckhart says "try it and you be the proof"

Now
Bought this for my dads birthday, so I got the large text. The book speaks about Buddhism and the teachings of Jesus is a way that makes you realize it’s all the same thing. So I new my dad would love it as he loves diving deep into the context of religious books. However know this is by no means religious book.

The next door to open is NOW.
I suppose most of you, who would read a review on a topic like this, have read;"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Law of Attraction or whatever, the audio of "The Power of Now" swallowed all of my radar. I started pursuing Metaphysics in the 80's. I've grown with Jose Silva, Chopra, Dyer, Emmit Fox, The Abraham tapes, Gregg Braden, and even some of "The Secret"...but this guy...perhaps everything else was a guided prelude to appreciate what he is. Listening to him is like eating...I love eating. I chew on his every word...slowly. And then I dish it up again. He has managed to outline a methodology of mind and realizations that you can cultivate every waking moment of the day. His illustration of time, or rather, "non-time"(the Now) is as relevant and unique as the concept of true free will. He guides you to where and how to sustain that elusive "Gap" between your thoughts...and what the hell it's good for. I've listened to him every day since I've received them...even the replays unfold something new. If we all had this, we'd fire all the politicians. I suspect Tolle may be from outer-space...he's not from my neighborhood!

Book is great
This is a great book, but it is worth it to spend a little more and get the other edition.
