It's a floating mantle
This is very good value, quick delivery, others I have priced can be very expensive. I was worried about the weight of the beam especially after being hung in place but the beam is not as heavy as expected. I don't know if the wood will split with age but this may make the floating mantle look better.Did you know that....In Kentucky USA.....Dogs may not molest cars.

Great quality!
I had been looking for a long time for something like this. I am really pleased as looks great! it is incredibly heavy and solid. better quality and look than expected to be honest. gave it a couple of coatings of oil and it is matching my oak furniture like a treat. because of the weight, we did have a few issues trying to fix it to the wall (too heavy for a plaster board wall, really) overall, very pleased with quality and appearance.
