This is a well made full tang knife, that's comfortable in the hand. It fits nice in the sheath and stays securely. The knife arrived very sharp, able to slice paper smoothly and easily. I've been using this for a couple months now and have sharpened it twice. It gets dull after opening a ton of Amazon boxes. It sharpens easily and I've not had any type of nicks in the metal. Very happy with this 704 knife.

..same blade shape and it will fit in the Gerber sheath..better steel and a larger Handel..it's supposed to be American made but I'm not 100%sure about that

I love this knife. It is a nice, heavy knife with a full tang. The handle is sturdy and and solid, and feels nice in my hand. It is a great length for the blade, too. Some knives are too short to be very effective as a hunting/outdoors knife, but this one is just the right length. It's a great knife for the price point, too. Not nearly as expensive as you might expect.The sheath is nice, too. It has a clip on it that allows you to attach it to your waistband almost any angle. It allows you to place it on either hip, or at the small of your back, facing either direction, for left-handed or right-handed draw.

I can't help but compare this 704 to an "other". Until now, one of my most favorite fieldcraft knives. The blade design is nearly identical with some subtle overall differences. I won't mention names, but many will readily recognize the "other", know what a great bushcraft knife it is and appreciate the comparison.Pros:- Longer, thicker handle and more pronounced bolster for larger hands that makes it more comfortable and secure to grip.- The center of balance is back about 2cm (3/4") into the handle that gives you finer control over the blade. More ideal for detailed tasks.- 4mm blade thickness vs. 5mm. Again, more suitable for fine detailed tasks and a much better food prep slicer.Also to note:- While the blade length is slightly shorter than the "other", the choil is smaller so the working edge is actually nearly the same.- A nice crisp 90 degree spine suitable for a ferro rod.- With a full sized shaped tang the 704 is about 75grams heavier than the "other". Lightweight can be good, but the 704 in the hand feels much more substantial. It may just be perception, but it just "feels" better and like you actually have a heavy duty tool in your hand.The steels are nearly identical (14C28N vs 420HC). 420HC being slightly easier to sharpen, but the 704's 14C28N having marginally better edge retention. In my book, more work between sharpening's is preferable. As far as corrosion resistance? Possibly a small nod toward the 420HC, but in any practical sense, identical.By way of any "con" (arguably):- A thinner working blade may be more likely to breakage during ultra heavy tasks.- The sheath is "meh". Plenty suitable and well designed but I'm not a great fan of the belt clip. Getting to the clip angle adjustment screw requires full disassembly and the retention grip is very aggressive. (As for me through, it fit's perfectly into the custom leather sheath I had made for the "other". LOL)Conclusion: I've very highly impressed with this knife and it'll be on my belt and put through it's paces. That's the best endorsement I can give.

Sharp, good balance, nice sheath.

For camp and utility tasks, I prefer fixed blade knives to folding knives at the lower end of the price range due to reliability and safety problems I've had with cheaper folders. This fixed blade knife is appropriately heavy duty, durable, and sharp despite a lower-to-midrange price. It's in the sweet spot where it does what you want it to but you also don't need to be too careful about avoiding the risk of damage like you might with a more expensive blade. The 10 oz. heft feels about right, but if I'm forced to nitpick I think the length could use another quarter to half inch in both the blade and handle. The overall feel and look of the knife are better than what the price would suggest. I'm not a steel expert, but it came out of the box sharp (not ultra sharp) and so far has proved resistant to dulling. The grip could perhaps use more aggressive texturing, but that's only a quibble. I'm happy overall; It's really quite a good knife.

The 704 Gear Baron Fixed Blade Knife is an impressive tool built for durability and versatility. The blade and handle are exceptional—solid, heavy, and built to handle rugged tasks. While the listed weight is 9.7 oz (and an additional 3.5 oz for the Kydex sheath), it feels much heavier in hand, almost like 1 or 2 pounds, giving it a substantial, reliable feel.The Kydex sheath is well-designed, securely locking the blade in place. One feature I really appreciate is the rotating clip, which can rotate 360 degrees with stops at every 45 or 90 degrees—more versatile than the ad initially suggests. I even mounted it to the front of my pack straps at chest height, where it held securely in an upside-down configuration. The friction lock works exceptionally well, and the knife only comes out with deliberate effort.This knife is probably too heavy for longer backpacking trips, but for short hikes or overnight outings, I’d be happy to carry it. The 14C28N steel blade balances corrosion resistance, edge retention, and ease of sharpening, while the textured G10 handle offers excellent grip and control.Overall, the 704 Gear Baron is a fantastic fixed blade knife. . It is a reliable and well-made tool that inspires confidence.
