Penn Rampage Rod
Penn Rampage fishing rod quality is good overall. with 8 double seated guides and tip guide. The rod size and stiffness is suitable for offshore fishing. I have the rod paired with a Penn 320GT and used it mainly for ARS fishing. I have caught ARS up to 10 pounds using this setup and the rod performed well as it is not too heavy to fish with for extended periods. The rod foam leaves a bit to be desired however for the price I cannot justify a legitimate complaint.

Good sturdy rod.

Quality!
Penn high quality as usual. Salt water ready. Cheaper rods will corrode on the ocean, but not Penn.

Great Rod but look at it when received
I have had a 20-50lb rated Rampage for 2 years and it is a great medium weight trolling rod for striped bass in NJ. I ordered another one and the one I received had a bent tip missing the insert for the rod tip and I did a return. The next one I received had the same issue. I went through everything else with the pole and it was fine except for the broken rod tip. I decided to keep it and went ahead and cut through the epoxy and heated the tip off, sanded it and installed a replacement tip. A few extra dollars for the tip and 5 minutes of my time I would have preferred not to spend and use. I wish the warehouse would take a few extra minutes and better protect the rod, they did 2 years ago for other rods I have ordered, they were much better protected. Either way, I liked the first one enough that it was worth it to me instead of trying to get a replacement or a refund. The rod itself has a pretty sensitive tip and then really loads up between the 4th and 5th eyes and then has some really decent backbone. That extra play in the tip can be the difference because that bend can keep the hook set where a strong meat stick rod could allow some slack for a fish to be released. They have no issues dealing with 40 pound Striped Bass or big False Albacore and I am sure they can handle good size Mahi and smaller pelagic species (smaller BFT) as well. Mine will be paired with a Penn Squall 50LD but any 30-60 series Penn reel, 15-25 TLD or even a TLD 20-30 2 speed would all work great.

My favorite set up
Love these rods for wreck fishing offshore! I own 5 of them. I have had 2 of them longer than 5 years and they have never broke or lost an eye under some pretty extreme fishing. I've paired up these rods with Penn Fathom 2 reels. Highly recommend.

Nope. Not a good rod. Really disappointing!
Today I went out and used this rod for the SECOND time. I was on Canaveral Princess head boat and I hooked a maybe 8 lb Cobia. This rod snapped like nothing right in the middle of the fight and all the fisherman on the boat started yelling. "MUST BE A PENN!" Upon conversations with other experienced fisherman today they told me to never buy a Penn rod. I'm nearly 70 years old and I've bought numerous rods in my life. Probably 50 or so. This is the first time I've EVER had a rod break that easy. Penn, you need to do better. The word is spreading. - P O'd Fisherman.
