Freekeh is an ancient grain made from green durum wheat that is harvested while young, roasted, and then threshed to create a nutty, smoky-flavored grain. It is commonly used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines.

How do you cook Freekeh?

To cook Freekeh, rinse it thoroughly under cold water. Combine 1 cup of Freekeh with 2 ½ cups of water or broth in a pot. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for about 20-25 minutes until tender.

How should Freekeh be stored?

Store Freekeh in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, such as a pantry. For extended freshness, you can also store it in the refrigerator or freezer.

Where does Freekeh come from?

Freekeh originates from the Middle East and is a traditional grain in countries like Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. It has been used in these regions for thousands of years.

What dishes can I make with Freekeh?

Freekeh can be used in a variety of dishes, including grain salads, stuffed vegetables, soups, stews, and as a side dish. It can also be served as a breakfast grain, similar to oatmeal or porridge.
