Moondropped it, its still working hy
I've had this phone for two months, I bought it in February and May has just started. I can confidently say that buying this phone instead of the new iPhone was the smart move. I was waiting and waiting for something to happen that would make me regret it, but I haven't. I've dropped it a ton and the screen is just fine despite my having no case or protector so. Yeah. If you have little hands like me, good luck because this thing is bigger than I thought. Still worth tho. I'm using it with audio technica headphones, and so far the sound quality and consistency is great compared to my iPhone 13 and Airpods pro combo.

We Need More Smartphones Like This
If youโre like me, seeing smartphones get more expensive every year while getting rid of features like the headphone jack has been frustrating to say the least. While Iโd be more than willing to pay more for a flagship phone to still have this feature, no company seems to think this matters anymore with Bluetooth earbuds being dominant. For those looking for a smartphone that still has a headphone jack, you really only had the Sony Xperia line (no longer in the US) or an assortment of questionable lower priced and specโd devices. The phone in question here, the Moondrop MIAD01, is unique as it comes from a company known for audio products and takes having just a headphone jack a step further. It reminds me back 10-15 years ago when Android phone manufacturers were willing to try different things in order to be more unique in their offerings. As a smartphone, the MIAD01 offers a mix of features that are good and bad. The screen is a large, and has a high refresh rate OLED with curved edges (reminds me of a Galaxy S6 Edge). It looks great and functions as expected. Performance is middle of the road, as this is essentially a lower-mid range spec phone. It is still ultimately useable, but not a smooth or seamless as flagships. Build quality is passable, with it mostly being made of plastic. It should be fine, particularly if it is in a case (hard to find decent ones of these btw). The camera, as even Moondrop put it, exists. It is not as bad as you might think, but it is clearly an area that cost cutting has taken place. Storage is expandable via micro sd. Now, on to the main attraction: the headphone jacks. Unlike most other phones before it, the Moondrop doesnโt just have a 3.5mm jack, but also a balanced 4.4mm output. The performance reminds me most of the types of DAC amps you can typically buy at around the $150-200 price point (the old Fiio BTR7 comes to mind). Not having to remember a dongle is great, though, I donโt believe the average person will notice a huge difference in performance without a back to back comparison on the unbalanced output. Bluetooth audio works as expected, with no stuttering and standard codec support (like LDAC). Moondrop software is minimal, but there is an option to add parametric equalization and some additional tube amplification/special audio modes. Third party solutions are more flexible. Another neat addition is the radio tuner. This phone isnโt good enough to convince me to replace my IPhone Pro Max with it, but, for its significantly lower price, itโs still quite good. If you look at this as an internet enabled digital audio player, it starts to look more compelling.

Hoping for better
The phone would never consistently connect to wifi! I've had lots of phones and never had one performed so poorly with wifi. I couldn't use it at all

Front camera, "it's not good, but it works" :)
Just heard about this music phone, that's an honest and genius quote in advertising where it needed to skimp in some areas. Do plebs still take selfies anyway?

This mobile internet audio device is super. The display is clear and colours are vivid. The sound is very satisfying paired with wired earphones. Moondrop sounds great with wireless headphones. Works perfectly with the Qobuz app for streaming and downloading music.

An excellent and unique mobile phone and quality music player all in one neat package
I'll get straight to the point: if you have been considering buying this product don't hesitate. It's a great phone and a great music player. Here's the detail... The Moondrop MIAD 01 is, to the best of my knowledge, a unique product - a competent phone that has been optimised to play music in both wired and Bluetooth configurations, but with the emphasis on the generally better sound you get by having a physical connection. To facilitate this the phone has a 3.5mm (standard size) headphone jack plus a rather less common 4.4mm jack allowing connection to balanced output headphones. As with all hi-fi products, what you hear will depend on the quality of the source. I have loaded up the MIAD's 256 GB of internal storage with CD-quality FLAC files and some Hi-Res files for testing purposes - I'm a Hi-Res sceptic in the main, however. I can confirm that played into a good quality set of wired headphones the quality is excellent, but if you don't want to take my word for that please take a look at the video review by John Darko who finds the product better than many expensive dedicated portable music players. I haven't tried listening using Bluetooth, but it's worth mentioning that the MIAD supports Sony's high quality LDAC codec. Of course there would be little point in buying the MIAD for its sound quality if it didn't also function as a capable phone. I hesitated before buying (unfortunately missing out on a Prime Day 60 Pound price discount!) because a number of online reviewers had questioned whether the MIAD could be an only or main phone, citing being unable to use it to access GPS-dependent services like Google Maps or set it up for near field communication (NFC)-based services like Google Pay. I can confirm that I have had no problem whatsoever setting up these services. I think the critical reviews you will find online all date from more than a year ago, prior to a major over-the-air update. The update has resolved these and any other problems while also updating the OS to Android 14 from 13. Call quality on 4G and 5G is excellent. An additional positive feature is that this is as close to stock Android as you are likely to get outside of the Pixel range. There was literally no bloatware I needed to get rid of of - compare and contrast with any Samsung phone! Like everything, there are a few little niggles. The unusual shape of the phone means that it takes a little thought at first as to how to safely hold it, but that's a skill you soon acquire. Also, the factory-applied screen protection film has a bit of tendency to bubble a little at the edges but can be soothed back down quite easily and at some point I will remove it entirely. (I am expecting the gel cover I have ordered but not yet received to help out with both these small issues). Finally, it's worth noting that the phone arrived from the Chinese supplier superbly well packaged and well within the delivery window. Overall I would unhesitatingly recommend this player/phone for its quality and excellent value for money.
