What is the cord going into the hopper?

One cord goes to a foot pedal to control it and the cord is connected to a plate that pushes down the stuffer.

Are the gears plastic or metal?

I haven't used it yet. But I set it up and turned it on. The gears are metal.

Not enough power to feed. If the speed is turned up the stuffer overheats and backs up. Any solutions/suggestions?

We found that you have to add water. About 1 cup per 5lbs. We ran it about half speed for salami 3 inch tubes and we could go full speed with beef sticks. Something else we found was that the O-ring was upside down on the plunger which will allow the meat to back up around the plunger.

Does the plunger remove to clean it?

I do not recall, but do not recall having difficulty cleaning the whole thing. The 'tub' tilts out making all parts accessible.
