Birds of New Guinea: Second Edition (Princeton Field Guides)

Paradise revisited.
Always good to see an accurate Field Guide to one of the countries near us - and New Guinea has so many endemic and interesting species that it deserves the serious attention of birders. I hope to see a few postings on the world-wide Cornell's Great Backyard Bird Count soon, one from each of PNG's provinces would be good. Eric Lindgren, Brisbane, Australia.

Great Field Guide
This is a great field guide to perhaps the most beautiful birds in the world. The field guide contains great illustrations of bird-of-paradise species found in New Guinea.

A great update from the first edition
A great update from the first edition. I'd been waiting a long time for this, and it does not disappoint. The plates are in a different style than before, and it may take a bit of getting used to if coming from the first version, but it grew on me, and now I prefer this one.

A beautiful book, which I would no doubt use if I ever went there, but there are some curious matters that I haven't found any good explanation for. Why are there no distribution maps for any of the shorebirds? And why are seabirds depicted only in flight? As I haven't had the opportunity to use the book in the field, I don't know how I feel about the fact that most of the species information is in a separate section of the book.

A most helpful book
I am reading The Malay Archipelago ( Kindle edition) and the bird guide paired perfectly making the Wallace book infinitely more interesting.

Amazon needs to work on their App for computer because the pictures won't enlarge on the screen unless you are on a tablet. That makes it impossible to identify the birds, but it is not the book that is at fault.

and this one is very good.
Just wish we had been able to take this book with us in July when we birded in PNG! It's about time for a new guide, and this one is very good.

Highly recommended.
Living in PNG with it's myriad of bird life this book is the most thumbed book in the house. Nothing else for the casual observer available to my knowledge. Highly recommended.
