The magnolia bush can withstand the outdoors but...when I received mine it was 4 inches. Big price tag for a 4 inch start.

How much does it grow in a year

We haven’t had this very long, so I googled your question. It seems growth is dependent on a few variables, but the rate averages 1-2 feet a year.

I purchased 7 of these and 4 are thriving the other 3 have turned brown and look like they are dying.

Well, let me tell you this: The one that bought looks like it is dying as well but the leaves are still on the stock and I am watering it as well as giving it plant food. This was about a year ago. I have leaf that looks like it will pop open soon but hasn't yet. The leaves on these when they die they will fall off. Just give it time. They do like sun and sem to need alot of water but you will have to use your judgement on that one. Hope this helps.
