In the product's image the words under the different icons are in Japanese. Can that be changed to English?

The item(Vita), is region free, set up the device, select your state/country, the Vita with automatically be set to the right language...

How long is the battery life

Played it non stop with my son for at least 6 or seven hours and still was 20% battery left.

Is this the us model? I heard that you can't use the us play store on a Japanese system is that true?

I’m pretty sure I have the Japanese model because the X and O buttons have reversed functionality in the menu settings of most games and apps. If that is the case, you don’t have to worry about the PSN store, as I have owned this vita for years and have had access to the US PSN store the entire time. I think it depends on the region you are in while activating your PSN, rather than the device’s origin.
