Introduction to the Hebrew Bible: Third Edition

College level study book
Clearly this book must be required reading for some kind of college course on the bible. The text is laid out generally in bible chronological order and or grouped into logical sub groups (like pre-exile prophets). If you are a bible literalist who accepts without question any and all things taught by traditional Christian denominations then this book is NOT for you. The authors point out all kinds of obvious errors/issues with time, places and events that are contradictory within the text or do not jive with outside the bible accepted evidence. They point out what other near east religions believed and how that impacted the belief system of the Hebrews. So if you are offended when they mention that other near east cultures have a flood story that influences the bible or when the authors say so and so is probably a legendary vs an actual person then this book is not for you. That said if you are interested in a book that gathers all the evidence both within and outside the bible and puts it out there for you to digest as you see fit then you will like this book. The language and grammar are on par with a high school text book and is easy to read, plainly written and easy to understand.

So far, I have only read about 6 chapters but find all the background details extremely interesting.

There is a thing that makes things right
This is the second book I have read by this man. I enjoyed this book, a story it’s tells is easier that the the Hebrew Bible. It’s not over my head with fewer verses. To understand, to enjoy, that’s what I’m looking for. Even reading this treasure, it’s a pleasure. It got my mind off a problem I has. Thank You

Introduction to the academic analysis of the Hebrew Bible
I have yet to read the entire book. However, the chapters that I have read were fantastic. The author provided an in-depth knowledge of the history and setting that surrounds the context of the Hebrew Bible without being overbearing and convoluted. It is appropriate for an introduction into the academic analysis of the text. I'm not too sure if this is enough for a theologian, though, but it is a fascinating read.

Great Book
The book was required for my Hebrew Scripture class in Seminary. It is a great textbook and one that you will want to keep after class. The author does a good job of explaining the HS and giving you much-needed background information. I feel so much more informed and knowledgeable after reading this book.

IMPORTANT: This is the "Short" introduction to the Hebrew Bible, not the full book.
I'm sure this information is helpful, but when attempting to buy the Kindle version of the full introduction textbook, you will instead be directed to purchase the abbreviated book. Be CAREFUL.As an aside, publishers should only print one book. This is unnecessary and confusing. Educators understand that they do not have to assign a complete and this merely creates confusion.
