At The Cottage Kitties Sanctuary we have a 3 YO with Calcivirus now diagnosed with CKD . Due to his phosphorus levels being extremely elevated we decided to try this product, although it is too early to comment on bloods we can comment on ease of use for cats as portion size is the one capsule, which we mix in with a little liquid treat and give orally. After one week of use in combination of 1-1 nursing & infusion hydration , kitty is showing signs of improvement and weight gain ( 3.8 to 4.2 kg) . With this type of disease combination of nursing & medication is required & this may aid recovery & management. We think it is worth trying.

My elderly cat has quite advanced kidney disease, and we are trying to do all we can to make her as well as possible for her remaining time with us. I was looking for something supplementary I could add in to her regime, as the vet said she doesn't really need a phos binders at present. She is on prescribed medications already. With veterinary care and meds we have got her appetite and vomiting sorted. She won't eat much in the way of specialist kidney failure diets, which is not ideal. However we want her to have quality of life rather than be miserable just for a little extra time maybe? So she has senior diet, some renal dry food and lots of treats I'm afraid! She loves a bit of cat milk especially. One of the things she started to suffer with was tremors/shaking at times. This is due to the kidneys not filtering waste products efficiently anymore. The web says " due to the buildup of toxins in the body, which can affect the nervous system and lead to muscle cramps or tremors." I've found giving this every other day, and an extra dose if she is looking a bit twitchy, has stopped the tremors completely at the moment. I wanted to give it cautiously so as not to effect her negatively. My vet hasn't recommended any toxin binders yet as her phos levels are OK in her results, but this really seems to have helped. At the end of the day we should treat the animal, and not just the numbers in test results, as they don't ways reflect the cat's symptoms and how they feel, in my opinion anyway. I also had done some reading on studies about giving binders when phos levels are normal, which were a bit inconclusive, but dod seem to suggest that the levels seen in blood tests can be misleading in some cases - but this is not well studied at all. I do think it won't cause harm to give these supplements if done cautiously and under vet care. The other bonus is my cat LOVES the taste. She's happy to have the capsule squirted into her mouth! But when she's eating well I put it on her food. It's a pretty big capsule, I'm not sure many people would feel comfortable trying to get their cat to swallow the whole thing (you twist the tip off of the gelatine capsule to squeeze the liquid out). Anyway, it really seems to have helped! So I would definitely recommend it. Do PLEASE 🙏 make sure you keep your pet under your vets care, as so many things can be going on with kidney problems (urine infections/ameamia/various levels of minerals etc going dangerously high or low). This seems pricey for sure, but depending on your pet's weight ofcourse, it will last a while. Small cats and dogs are recommended 1 capsule. Wishing you and your pet good health!

The dosing isn't really accurate for cats/ small dogs. Less than 10kgs is too broadstroke as you can give cats too much VitD and most cats are less than half of this weight/ a third of this. Is it effective if you give a third or half a capsule - doesn't say. I think this would be better with omega 3 instead of VitD as most food is already supplemented/ naturally occurring and cats need more fat/calories- they can overdose on VitD. Caused some gut problem. Got this because needed something fast and they didn't inflate the price of product by +33% on Prime delivery (as with other products). I've got a plain chitosan/phosphorous binder since. Great if your pet is around 10kgs I'd say.
