Love it! We have had this style BBQ for ...
Love it! We have had this style BBQ for about 15 years and it finally failed. We prefer cooking on charcoal and this model has a propane lighter that makes the process much easier. The new one has several improved features we really like. The charcoal bin is on the side rather than under the lid so access is much easier. The grate has a removable center to add steak grills or other add-ons. Biggest improvement is moving to standard 16 Oz propane canisters from the small tank on the old one (always hard to find a dealer with the right size fill nozzle). These also come with a charcoal holder chimney of sorts so don't bother with adding a chimney. Assembly was pretty good. Instructions are all done in pictures but with some hard looking, it is fairly easy to figure out. Very solid unit when finished. Deciding on the model was a bit of a challenge. Weber sells this one, the "Deluxe" model, and a less expensive one called the "Premium". They look the same in the pictures but the "Premium" doesn't have the "Touch and Go" propane ignition system. Well worth the extra 50 bucks for us. If you go with propane model, get a gadget called a "Schozzle" from Amazon. It allows you to refill a 16 Oz propane canister from a standard propane tank. And, at only $10, it saves on cost of propane. Stay Calm and Grill On! Note all the different colors are the same price so find one you like.

Worth it, and splurge for the Auto-light for $40 more
I've always heard great things about the benefits of charcoal grilling, but hated the process of lighting the grill and managing the ashes, so I have always owned a gas grill...that is until now. The Weber Performer Deluxe grill give me all the benefits of the flavor that charcoal gives (being able to used hardwood briquettes, etc), and easy to manage. The Weber performer grill gives even cooking, and the charcoal holders give you great control over managing where the coals are for both direct and indirect cooking. Plus, it comes with the better higher guage grill grates with the center opening, and the side openings to manage coals mid-cooking. Finally, the ash management is amazing. There two versions and I opted for the Deluxe for $40.00 more ($439 vs $399), and it is worth it as it makes lighting a breeze. You have to attache a small propane bottle (about $6) to it, and then position your coals over the gas nozzle (I layer fast lighting coals at the bottom of the coal pans, then fill the rest with either Applewood or Mesquite Hardwood coal briquettes for flavor), the turn on the gas, push the lighter and poof, my fire has started. Leave for about 5 mins and turn off the gas, and then give the briquettes another 10 mins and you are ready to start grilling. You can leave the goals in the center or move them to the side. So far I have been impressed with it's even cooking for burgers, chicken parts (bone-in), steak, ribs, beer can chicken, and brisket. What I also like is the temperature management using the air-damper at the bottom and the vent on the top.

Home again, and happily so!
Just received and assembled so I haven't cooked on it yet, but I don't need to before writing the review because a Weber Kettle was my first grill more than 30 years ago and I can tell from assembling it that the heart and soul are still the same. Product arrived with box in nearly pristine condition, but it probably wouldn't have mattered because it was packed SO WELL. Now, for assembly, I prepared myself for the usual grind of poor instructions and ill-fitting parts that I've grown used to in other grills since I got too "sophisticated" for a kettle. Boy, was I surprised! Assembly was simple, straight forward and I could've almost done it without the instructions. Only criticism I have to offer is two open-end wrenches are called for, but no sizes are given in the instructions. How hard would it have been to include the size? I still don't know because I just chose to go with a pair of pliers instead, which worked fine. I look at this grill and I see all of the simplicity and reliability of the original, with almost all of the improvements I could ask for: Great ash collection system Improved holder for the lid Great work surface Gas start option Built in timer Handy tilt-out bin which I will find a use for, even if I don't agree with putting charcoal in an open-air container on a grill that will likely be stored outside. I'll stick with my Kingsford storage bin that is airtight. Additional storage space is always welcome! Improved grate with both hinged doors for adding coals and I LOVE the idea of the new gourmet system. One reviewer called it "stupid" but hey... just because he lacks the skill or imagination to make good use of it, doesn't make it "stupid"! The same guy talked about "over paying" but again, that's unrealistic. If you consider how many grills I've WORN OUT in the past 30 years and had to replace because they were only offered for a few years and replacement parts were no longer available, while the Kettle is basically still the same and many owners are still using one 20-30 years later, there is NO SUCH THING as "over paying" for this kind of quality.

Great grill.
Great grill.! Didn't try the push ignition but it worked well with manually starting it up. Cooked the meat really nicely. Copper color was so cool!

The best Weber Grill I've owned!
This is a great grill! I have been using Weber kettles for well over 40 years. It was time to move to a new grill so I decided to get the top of the line, and I’m really glad I did. What do I like so much? 1. The assembly went very smoothly. Weber obviously thought of the home owner putting the grill together when they designed it. Take your time and follow the instructions and it is easy. 2. They have added a thermometer to the kettle which is great for doing slow-cooking dishes like ribs, chickens, and roasts. It’s easy to adjust the vents to keep a consistent temperature. 3. The work table next to the kettle is handy and has a bin built in to store the charcoal! No more trips to the garage for the charcoal. 4. The gas starter…I kept the best for last! After 50 years I’m done using starter fluid! After a few uses I learned to turn the gas down to where the flame almost stops and then run the gas for five to seven minutes, then I turn the gas off. That saves gas and gets the coals burning. My wife is getting tired of hearing how much I love the gas starter! 5. The ash caddy is much improved from my last Weber. This one slips off and on easily to dump the ashes. I highly recommend this grill to anyone who loves to cook with charcoal.

Loving it!
We used charcoal for years then decided to go to gas for it's convenience. 6 years and 2 gas grills later we'd had enough. What is it with gas grills now? Both started to rot out within 2 years of purchase. Our first one was rather cheap so I guess I can understand. Our second was not and it still needs a total rebuild (burners and flavor tents) after 2 years of use. We're in upstate NY so our grilling season is somewhat short, maybe 5 months. Anyhow; Boy what a difference! This grill is VERY well built. I took my time during assembly, inventory & organized parts, drank coffee, whatever. The box is quite heavy. I flipped & slid it into the house, then unpacked the parts inside & carried the pieces for each step of assembly out the back door to the patio. The directions are pictographs with little "alert" notations where they thought they were needed. I'd be sure to pay attention to these little alerts as a couple of them are needed. I think anyone who's assembled anything could manage this with little frustration. Just take your time and study each step before executing it. After reading a lot of reviews we opted for the "one touch ignition" with the little camp stove propane bottle (not included) feature. Boy are we glad! We didn't want to have to mess with starter cubes or chimneys. I think it's well worth the extra $50 for the upgrade. We also love the size of the prep table and the integrated charcoal bin. A note about the charcoal bin; The entire bag of charcoal (bag included) is meant to be put into the bin. The literature says the bin will hold a 30 lb bag. That info would only be accurate if it's a 30 lb bag of briquettes, NOT lump charcoal. If you're in the market for a charcoal grill, I HIGHLY recommend the Weber! Super sturdy & well built. My husband was a toolmaker & manufacturing engineer so, if he's impressed, that's saying a lot! I won't get into the debate of gas over charcoal but I will say the flavor improvement was amazing! We didn't realize how much flavor we'd been missing. We only use natural lump charcoal or natural briquettes when we can find them.

This is an amazing grill! You have the flavor and taste of ...
I have been using a gas grill for years because the hassle with charcoal and just a pain to light. This is an amazing grill! You have the flavor and taste of charcoal or wood but the convenience of gas! Great idea Weber and works very well! Comes with excellent visual instructions and very easy to put together. It took about an hour to assemble. I considered the Weber Premium grill because it is cheaper, but I am more than happy that I went with the Deluxe. Electronic Touch-N-Go™ gas ignition system is best money I have spent in a long time. Get your charcoal prepared, turn on the gas, hit the lighter button and bam you’re on your way to great steaks! Grill is made of high quality materials and does not feel cheap in any way. The table top is excellent and a real plus. I was amazed with how heavy duty the grates are with this grill, not like your box store cheap grills. I also like the idea of storing charcoal right there in the bin. I would totally recommend this grill, you will not be sorry! Update - more of a recommendation - Get a Propane Adaptor hose. Why, because you can connect your standard 20 lb gas grill propane cylinder to the Weber instead of using the disposable 1 lb cylinders. Cheaper to operate over the long run and more environmentally friendly.

Great BBQ
I wanted a Kamado or Green Egg, but after seeing their ridiculous prices, let alone that they are not made in North America, I opted for this Weber and I don't regret it. This system to start the coal is really amazing. Turn a knob, push a button, wait between 6 to 10 minutes, and when you come back you have nice glowing embers.
