Absolute GAME CHANGER for the ROG Ally.
Frankly, installation of this battery pack is a bit of a pain that takes careful effort to make sure it's done safely. Before buying, watch a YouTube video on how to install it, as it's a bit of an involved process. I'm a novice and was able to do it, as no steps are particularly "hard", but you do have to be very careful and meticulous with it to not damage the internal connectors or wiring. With that out of the way, this battery pack is INCREDIBLE. Anyone owning an ROG Ally knows that the biggest pain point is its battery life, and this battery pack almost completely fixes that issue. I've used it for about a week with the new one, and it nearly doubles the battery life. Here's an example. With the old battery, playing Rocket League on high settings at 15W and half-brightness would net me about 80 minutes of playtime. Not long enough for a daily train commute. With this new battery, I'm getting about 2.5 hours (150 mins) with the same settings which is more than enough time for me a day. Dropping down to lower settings and setting it to 10W, and the difference is even more drastic. There is a caveat to installing this battery, and that is that when the device is fully powered off, it can no longer charge at full speed 65W, only 45W max is supported. That means that if the device is completely shut down, charging times will be longer. This doesn't really impact me day to day as I usually keep mine in sleep mode when not in use. Overall, for about $60 this is an incredible value for the money.

Works great for me, YMMV
Bought for my ROG Ally Z1E. Works perfect for me so far. Charge time is significantly longer than oem. As is the case with all third party batteries, your mileage may vary but so far I'd definitely recommend this.

Good quality but no instructions. Recommend YouTube videos for insulation.
Battery install was not too bad. Most of the tools needed, two screwdrivers and opening pick come with it in the box. From 1-5 difficulty level is perhaps 2 or 3. Just be careful disconnecting the ribbon cable that runs across the existing battery and take your time. Note that no paperwork or instructions are provided but there are several YouTube videos available that do a fairly decent job of explaining the installation details. Additional items you may need that appear in some if the videos that I opted to use were thin double sided sticky tape, aluminum tape, and a relatively small sheet of thin (approximately .5mm) aluminum sheet metal to make a heat dissipation sink for the underside of the battery. I was able to order everything I needed from Amazon except opted for my local hardware store for the small 4” x 10” piece of aluminum. I have only had a chance to play for a couple of hours since install so I can’t really comment on battery life or longevity over time but the battery was immediately recognized by the operating system and appears to be of good quality. I also ordered a rear case with increased cooling capacity, (more holes) and installed this at the same time but this isn’t really necessary unless you run at maximum power and frame rate most of the time. Then I could see where this would be beneficial. Additional note, there are some places on the inside of the front cover and also on the inside of the back cover where you will have to trim away some of the plastic supports but a nice pair of cutters is supplied which makes this relatively an easy task, you just may want to get some sandpaper or a scotchbright pad to smooth the rough edges down when you’re finished. I cut a metal plate of aluminum the same size as the battery and attached it to the battery with aluminum adhesive tape. It ended up on the underside of the battery between the battery and the front cover with the aluminum tape wrapped around the entire battery except for the front edge facing the circuit board when installed. Be aware that in the U.S., the manufacturer can not void your warranty just because you open the device and perhaps cut any warranty stickers, although there weren’t any in my device, but since you have to cut away some of the plastic case for this installation it may affect and possibly void your warranty. In my case, I wasn’t real concerned since I routinely repair electronics and laptops but this is something you may consider before doing this mod yourself. I’ll update this review after I’ve had some more real-life experience with battery life.

Faulty BMS (battery charge issues)
After using it for a short time, the battery stopped charge fully. It will charge up to 60% or lower. When I drain the battery and charge it back, it will go back up, but not fully and only works once. It's very frustrating. This makes me believe that it has a BMS (battery monitoring system) type issue.

Degradation kills value proposition
Initially, this battery worked perfectly for my ROG Ally, nearly doubling battery life. Unfortunately, 9 months later, the Ally shuts down at 35% battery. A few months ago it would shut down at around 20%. So, it seems to be degrading quickly. From what I've read online it is probably not a matter of capacity but of sustained power output at sufficient levels. Once power delivery falls below the minimum, the system will suddenly shut down. If this battery was cheaper or the degradation was half as much, it would be worth it. As of stands, this battery isn't a good value in my opinion. I've also read it's a crap shoot with these Chinese made batteries and your RNG may vary.

Take your time. It'll be worth it
HUGE IMPROVEMENT! I've had my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme since launch and my absolute biggest complaint about it has been the atrocious battery life. With the 74wh battery mod I've more than doubled my overall playtime with each charge. The install wasn't too bad, but I recommend watching a few tutorials on youtube to fully understand which plastic bits need to be trimmed from your back shell's interior. After I snipped the pieces needed, I lightly sanded them down to make sure no sharp points could come in contact with the battery once reassembled. After running a battery test and report through the control panel, I realized the max charge is actually 76wh 🙌 If the battery life of the Ally is an annoyance for you, I highly recommend this mod!
