Is this a permenant hair straightening? How long does this last and what are the steps?

Yes this is permanent hair straightening. It usually lasts about 8 months for me until the new hair growing out becomes unruly. My hair doesn't grow very fast so it depends on the person. The hair has to be washed. Apply the straightener let it sit 10-15 mins. wash it out, dry your hair and flat iron in very small sections until all of your hair is completely straight. then apply the neutralizer. Be careful and make sure it is applied to all of your hair. Missing this step can result in hair loss. Leave neutralizer in the hair and work through throughly for 10 minutes. wash the hair and dry again and re iron in small sections. don't wet hair or use any hair accessories for 3 days. Im not a professional but i have had this done to my hair for the past ten years. I recently used this product and did it myself. I would caution you that you should not use this if you have any hair dye or any other processing in your hair. Again I'm not a professional I can only relay my experience with my own hair. Should this product be used on African American hair?

Yes it works on African Americans hair as well

Can you use this product on color treated and highlited hair?

You can use it on colored hair but it will fade the color out. I always used this product about two weeks before I colored my hair so my hair didn't dry out and it didn't take the color out right after I did it.
