High quality draw knife.
I was looking for a high quality draw knife I could abuse and this one definitely fits the bill. I decided to test it out on a piece of cherry wood I had air drying for two years. It shaved though the wood great without having to sharpen the blade as others have stated. In my opinion it’s plenty sharp as it comes. I also tested how it would hold up to hammer tap. I tapped it twenty or thirty times through a few little knots on the piece of cherry wood. It’s difficult to even tell the tool had been tapped on also blade has zero chips. When I was finished the blade is still as sharp as I received it and I never questioned the wood handles being Secure. I would highly recommend!

I wish I had it many years before.
A very versatile draw knife that would become handy in most of your wood projects. It comes with a factory sharpen edge, which needs further sharpening to instal a razor edge. I mainly work with hard wood and this holds the edge well for extended time. Handles are well designed and comfortable to work with. Recommended.

Some characteristics
I just received this ox-head yesterday and have not used it quite yet.The knife is fairly dull out of the box and needs to be tuned up. I'll get to that in a minute.Characteristics not readily evident from the picture or description:- The blade is not laminated. It's one solid piece. The better old tools had a very hard piece of steel laminated onto the tool to make the cutting edge. The rest of the steel was milder. The ox-head is made from a single piece of steel, not too hard, not too mild. It will probably keep an edge for several hours of use on hardwood.- The handles are dropped down below the beveled edge. This is OK and might provide better leverage. I've not used a knife with the handles in this position before.- The blade is not flat or straight. Probably deliberately so. It curves slightly upward near the ends and has a slight concavity to it - this runs along the length of the top of the blade (and the bottom has a very slight corresponding ridge down the center).- The cutting edge is not straight. It curves slightly away from the cutting edge for most of the length but recurves toward the edge at the last extreme inch or so. And it has a slight depression in the bevel for 1" about a quarter inch from each end. But, this is NOT a delicate instrument so these deviations are not troublesome to me. Yet. Let's see how it performs (a later review).Unlike the description says, the cutting edge is NOT "finely polished for the best cutting performance." Not hardly. Of course, since the edge is not, neither are the flats behind the bevel. All surfaces show hairline tooling marks (scratches) running across the blade. Not a big deal but you SHOULD tune up and sharpen this tool before using it, that should make a huge difference in the performance of the tool. However, because of the contours, getting all the scratches out would take a long time. On my first tune-up, I got the bottom pretty well polished but there are still scratches. The bevel is polished except for the hollows near the ends. Those don't matter very much. There is an excellent page on how to do this here:[...]so I'll just let you look at that page.I'm giving a 4* rating until I get a change to actually shave some wood with this new to me tool. The construction is very solid and the blade is plenty thick for what I'll use it for (which is rough forming chair spindles and seats).

Perfect for a small DYI log table project
This drawknife is perfect for a small project I'm undertaking. We cut down a large Ponderosa Pine in our back yard and cut the trunk into 18" lengths with the intention of making coffee tables to go around our fire pit. I say small project, because I basically need to skin and hew a log surface of about 80" x 14" and that's it. If you're building a log home and doing it by hand, spend the extra money and buy the right tool for the job. Some reviewers say the knife comes dull and required "several hours" of sharpening. Not mine. Right out of the box, I'm whittling away making tables and it's great. I bought a sharpening stone and some oil and after the first two were done, sharpened the blade, which took maybe 5 minutes and I'm back in business. Like I said, small project = perfect tool.

Great Knife
Very good quality tool. The blade came fairly sharp and the handles seem very stout. I honed the blade with minimal effort and it is extremely sharp now. I love the ergonomics of the curved handles.

FALSE STATEMENTS in the desription
I received this yesterday and was totally disappointed with the blade surface finish and hence the sharpness. The one i received clearly came directly from the coarse grinder and had very deep grind marks. After over 1 hour of polishing it is in acceptable shape now, but i still was not able to completely remove all the grind scratches.I would say it is fairly well made, but to read in the description "Cutting edges finely polished for the best cutting performance" is just simply a FALSE statement.I think the reseller or the manufacturer owes us something here (like one that really is polished). If they don't improve this i would not buy this again.

Quality is good, but finish doesn't match the price
It's a workmanlike tool, but the price is excessive for what you get - a simple single bevel (very coarse) grind, some unsanded handles, and that's about it.The design is about right for heavier work, though the blade could fill a bit more of the space between the handles. For lighter or more accurate work, you will need to spend a ton of time bringing the edge up to spec.

Handle came off after an hour's use
It's comfortable to hold and seems ergonomic to use. It's our first draw knife, so as far as I can tell it's a good blade. I debarked one side of a 15 ft poplar log without too much effort. But one of the handles came off after only an hour's use. We're outside the return window so unless the company decides to make it right, I guess we need to try to fix it ourselves by gluing back in or something.
