Oregon 109179 Saw Chain Hydraulically Assisted Bench Grinder/Sharpener

I have used the Oregon Hydraulic Bench-Mounted Grinder for several weeks and I am very satisfied, it works great.

This is a very good product; performs as anticipated for sharpening chain saw chains like the pros do. My suggestions are that the directions are not as complete, clear, and easy to follow as they should be. I called the Oregon service center twice for clarification. In fact, there has been a change in one spec that the second technician passed on to me. This should have been included wiht the sharpener. Both service technicians that I spoke with were knowledgeable, happy to help and professional.The second suggestion is that Oregon should provide a crossover file that lists chains saw models and settings for same.Thanks for the oppoprtunity to comment.Tom Durbin

It works like it should. Great item to have if you cut your own fire wood, or sharpen blades for family and friends aswell for some extra cash. The only problem I had was reading the instruction manual. You will find like several other people I know that it is written in "jibberish". Dont let it deter you in any reguards. You will get some information, but then common sense takes over. Outside of that, use the manual in the bathroom and save on toilet paper. I dont see why Oregon cant re-write the instructions to simplify things.

This was a gift for my husband and he loves it. He says it is easy to use and set up. His old sharpener had to be reset frequently but this is easy and has been set up once with no need to reset.

It took a little time to get used to working the chain smoothly through, and figuring out the proper settings. If you are not professionally sharpening chains I would suggest going with a less expensive model. I use this for our business, we go through a dozen or more chains a year and try to get three to four sharpenings out of each one. So this is a pretty good tool. Buy the extra stones now before prices go up.

Ditto on the worthless directions. Although I did find them helpful in determining the angles of cut and such. It appears to be a GREAT grinder. Very easy to use and does a fabulous job. We are total novices but decided to buy a good sharpener since we heat with wood and use our saws all the time. After reading the reviews on all the other brands we went with this one. After I saw that one guy bought his from right-tool.com for about $80 less than Amazon I went there and bought mine there as well and saved over $100.00 because it was on sale. It is a very well built sharpener and easy to use. All of the markings for adjustment are well marked and easy to understand. There are a lot of cheaper ones out there and I guess one of those may suffice, but we had no clue on how to use a sharpener other than looking at the UTube videos so we bought one that has all of the dials and measurements marked. I would highly recommend this product

I didn't give it a 5 star rating because the instructions for setting up the unit aren't the greatest. It was difficult to find the Chain settings for chains that aren't Oregon.
