I have 20 year old First Alert alarms with incompatible wiring. Does this unit come with a new wiring harness to connect to the AC line?

Yes, this comes with a 3 wire harness that gets hard wired to your existing electrical and connects to the back of the fire alarm. Black and white for power and red to link alarms together. It does not include any adapters so you will need to disconnect the power and replace the existing harness with the one included with the alarm.

The photo for this product indicates that this is a dual alarm (both p and i are shown on front of unit). Just supposed to be just photoelectric??

Yep, they are showing the wrong picture. This is a photoelectric model only. The dual ion/photoelectric hardwire detector is BRK 3120B. I realize your question is old....I'm answering it for others...

In two places, the description says this unit is red plastic. Is this true?

They are white with a red plastic dust cover. The red plastic dust cover is for use when you are painting or remodeling to prevent particulates from entering alarm and setting it off.
