Real oak for real Texas brisket
I initially gave this four-stars because the chunk size was a bit irregular. After running through the first bag and buying my second, though, I'm changing my tune. I like having a bit of variation is size so I can pick based on the duration of smoke I'm doing. So that being said, the quality of the wood is really good. The chunks are cut pretty cleanly, no sign of bad wood, and the smell... God, the smell is beautiful. I'm a Texan, so for me barbecue means brisket, and brisket means OAK. Nothing makes me happier than waking up in the morning to check on my brisket and smelling that oak smoke wafting through the back yard.

Some Good chunks But Most Not!
My box had a lot of pieces of wood that were have soft rotten wood. Some chunks were half solid wood and half rotten. Hard to believe it was cut from live trees and "Kiln Dried" as stated. Not at all like the photo in the listing. I would have sent it back but I need it for Christmas dinner. I use wood to heat my home and don't use rotten wood. Will not buy again.

Got Chunks?
If you're looking for an authentic Santa Maria style barbecue, you need oak. This is the secret of central California restaurants that grill meats; i.e., the Hitching Post (check out the movie Sideways). If used dry, it also adds that additional heat you need for a good sear on your steaks, which by the way, will be the best steaks you've ever pulled off that grill in your back yard...

Might just have been the batch
Burned up rather quick....very dry. The second half of the bag I soaked them in water for a half hour, then pre heated them in the cooking chamber for a half hour...worked better then

Good sized chunks lasted. Only needed a couple to last the whole smoke
Perfect sized chunks provided smoke through several hours of smoking. Flavor on the pork shoulder I smoked was amazing.

Does NOT Taste like Oak!!!
This is only a review on Oak Wood, and Not any other. This wood does not taste or smell anything like Oak. Very disappointed. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with all types of wood and their smell; but I am very familiar with Oak; and this not Oak. I know it's not Apple, Mesquite, Cherry as I have this from a reputable vendor, and this doesn't smell like any of them.

Moderate value
Was expecting more since I was used to Weber packages. Unless you are a diehard fan other brands are a better buy.
