Excellent sharpener . . . But uses nonstandard blade
I confess I am a pencil collector. I have more pencils, lead holders, and sharpeners than any one person needs. The Kum 104.06.01 is an excellent pencil sharpener and produces the fine pointed lead by shaving beautiful long continuous curls of wood from your pencil. Kum brand is known for the excellent knives in their sharpeners. These are not cheap little blades but extremely well crafted little razor sharp knives. It is no surprise, the Kum 104.06.01 produces an immaculate fine point on a pencil. The Kum 104.06.01 is designed to produce a long fine pointed lead. Its magnesium body should last a lifetime. Surprisingly, the only problem I have with this sharpener is the blade length. Kum chose to use an extra long knife in this model instead of their standard length knife. The extra long knife performs well but the extra long replacement knives are difficult to find. The Kum knives hold a sharp edge for a long time but eventually will need to be replaced. I recommend a Kum sharpener with standard length knives for ease of finding replacement blades. Option#1: The Kum AS2 series sharpeners can produce the same identical fine long point using the Kum standard length knives. Two standard length replacement knives come with the Kum AS2. Kum standard length replacement knives are easy to find. Unless you need the Kum 104.06.01 compact size, the larger Kum AS2 is the better choice for most people. Option#2: The Kum 410 is a better choice for color pencils. It is a 2 hole magnesium wedge shaped sharpener.

Absurdly great!
I thought it was weird that, not only did people leave reviews for something as trivial as a mundane pencil sharpener, but that so many raved about it. It's a pencil sharpener. It makes pencils sharp. Big deal. Well, I get it now. this is so far and above any other sharpener I've ever encountered. I literally did not know pencils could be sharpened this sharp and well. I would have paid far more if I knew how good it is.

Best long point manual sharpener
I tried the Dahle 133, thr Derwent crank sharpener, the Carl 1000 and had bad results from all of them. As an avid colorist I love to get a long point on my colored pencils. From the high rated but failed sharpeners I tried, I would get marks on my pencils, the mechanism would just fall out or cranks would not work at all! I got sick of buying and sending back inferior products. I came across this little gem and said, what the heck I'll try it because it does not cost much and I already have some Kum sharpeners. The Kums I have sharpen ok but don't give me the sharp point. The one does! I kid you not, this one is fantastic! It gives a wonderful long tip and you can get replacement blades for it. (Just make sure you get the long point blades, not the standard size blades). I'm so glad my searching led me to this one. I love it!!!

Good, maybe overpriced.
It is a good pencil sharpener that provides a very fine point, but there are way better deals for pencils sharpeners just as good as this one out there.

Surprise! It's glittery
It works great, it's lightweight, about 1 inch long, and is glittery; which was unexpected, but appreciated.

Breaks lead off pencil - if you can even get it to sharpen that far
There seems to be a certain point in the sharpener that pencils just stop at. Push all you want, hold it at whatever angle - no more wood is going to get shaved off. The remaining wood does get a nice polish from the useless brushing against the blade, which does absolutely squat for someone wanting to, you know, use the pencil. If you attempt to re-sharpen a pencil that was sharpened with a shorter-point sharpener, this sharpener just snaps the lead off in the barrel and then gets stuck at that magical stopping point. Beyond disappointing.

Best pencil sharpener I've ever owned
I want to dispel a lot of the negative reviews that were sold faulty sharpeners by sellers that didn't handle them correctly; This sharpener gets the job done. I've run everything in my arsenal through it, and it manages to give an absolutely perfect tip every time, after 100+ pencils sharpened. I picked out 3 different pencil types to definitively prove this pencil-slayer's worth. A regular HB2 Soft #2 pencil with the hexagon wood, a Prismacolor colored pencil with the cylindrical wood, and a Prismacolor Ebony drawing pencil, all at rather poor condition pre-sharpening. The #2 pencil was honed down to an ultra-fine point, able to draw incredibly thin lines as if it were a professional tool, with very smoothed down wood surrounding the graphite inside. The Prismacolor colored pencil came fresh out of the tin, the tip you see is what they sharpen it to in the factory. 20 Seconds of sharpening later, it gains a precise tip, with that nice, smooth wood around it. It even managed to sharpen it all the way without the shavings breaking! The Prismacolor drawing pencil was what I was worried about, due to the extra-thick graphite inside requiring a solid sharpener to not chip or fracture it while sharpening, but the long point comes out victorious once again, turning a chipped tip into a precise instrument of art! Bottom line, I consider this an extremely important, vital tool if you want to keep your pencils at peak performance, accept no substitutes. If for some reason this sharpener fails me at some point, I'll come back, and correct myself, but I have some pretty solid faith in it.

Should be just fine. They are just pencil sharpeners for those of us that still use
They are German made from a long time company. Only problem I can think of is they say "long point" on them which might give a delicate pencil point not sturdy enough for regular jobs but great for detail work or art or something of fine detail. Hopefully the magnesium content will make them useful for fire starting, which is why I purchased. Fine curls of wood and a bit of magnesium scraped off the side.

Not as simple to use as you might think.
I ordered this to create a longer, sharper point on my pencils. Have to apply a lot of pressure to get it to sharpen to a fine point. Tedious. The point is not much finer than you'd get with an ordinary pencil sharpener.

À éviter!
Tres content de la taille de mes crayons. Pointe bien pointue, un bonheur pour dessiner. Mais de courte durée, car la lame ne coupe plus du tout au bout d'une dizaine d'utilisation.
