First Alert BRK PRC710 Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Built-In 10-Year Battery, White

This is what was in my house when I bought it. I took it down and did research when the alarm started going off. It was still a newer one so I called them even though I didn’t purchase it they replaced it. I then ordered an additional one for my house. I do like that it’s good for 10 years and the battery alarm reminds us to get new ones.

Not perfect but it's hard to find a smoke alarm that performs well and also also looks reasonably well. I'm not sure why there are so many ugly smoke alarms on the market, you have to look at the thing constantly on your wall so it might as well not stand out like some hideous big octagon shape with bright red lettering...I wouldn't worry about the safety end of testing how well it detects, any UL listed alarm is already tested to a fairly high standard so you shouldn't have safety issues there. I don't find this to be prone to false alarms either, I think those are leaving bad reviews about the false alarms probably have it in a bad placement. It shouldn't be too close to the kitchen if at all avoidable and after that, I'm not sure what people are doing that gives them all these false alarms they like to complain about. Even regular smoking shouldn't be setting it off unless you're sitting directly below the thing.As for looks, I wish it was even slimmer but it's the slimmest battery only detector I've found, it is a noticeable difference versus the competition. Also the color is a nice white white, no tan off-white stuff that doesn't match the ceiling. I wish the lettering was white too but it's reasonably small print and doesn't show from across the room.I like the idea of a permanent battery, no more low battery chirping. It activates itself the first time you twist it into the base mounting plate and after that you can't shut it off without permanently disabling it.

I hope the battery is good for ten years. This should make life a lot easier. It is very easy to install and is thinner than my old combo smoke and carbon monoxide detector. The only thing I don't care for is you need to test each unit once a month. The test is not just one short loud noise is a set of three or more. The noise needs to be loud, I understand that, but it really flips out my pet dog

The alarm failed after about two years. Not ideal, but failures will happen. I called them up and without even waiting on hold was connected to a real human being. After hearing the symptoms, she immediately requested a replacement be shipped to me at no charge. Good customer service is rare these days, and is something to take into account before you order a cheap knockoff instead of this.
