My daughter came home from camp with lice. This is the first experience I have ever had with lice, so I promptly headed to the pharmacy to pick up a bottle of lice shampoo. I wanted it taken care of right away, so I got the extra strength stuff that supposedly kills the "super lice" that are resistant to being killed by the lice shampoos. I washed her hair following the package directions exactly. Several lice died and came out in the wash. I thought I had success. I then spent a torturous 2.5 hours meticulously combing through her long thick hair with a "professional" metal nit comb. A lot came out so I thought we had conquered them. The next day, we went through the 2.5-hour comb-through process again. She had many live bugs that did not look at all fazed by the shampoo residue that was supposedly still active. I ordered the Robi-Comb at this point. The next day, same 2.5 hour comb-through - more bugs came out than the day before. Obviously the shampoo did not work (I later found out from a medical journal that the OTC shampoos are only 25% effective. Pharmacists are no longer even recommending to use the shampoos because they are a neuro-disruptor and are not effective. Shame on them for selling toxic products that don't even work!!). Finally my RobiComb arrived. The entire comb-through process was dramatically cut down - from 2.5 hours to 30 minutes - because you can comb through a bigger section at once. The RobiComb gets out the tiniest of newly-hatched bugs (see my picture - you will see an adult louse, a nymph, and a few newly-hatched bugs). Within 1 week, my daughter was completely lice-free! Unfortunately, sometime during this process my son got lice too. One week with the RobiComb for 10 minutes a day (he has short hair) and he is lice-free as well. Our entire family now uses the RobiComb on a weekly basis just as a preventative measure.

This is my first time writing a review for any product in my life. I have no idea how well this comb works, because I opened it for the first time today (purchased three weeks ago, but thought we had these super lice kicked with products that arrived previously). It doesn't power on. AT ALL. I tried all the obvious things: Reseating the battery, swapping battery polarization, trying the same with two brand new batteries, wiggling the power switch. Nothing. I wouldn't be writing this negative review if I had ANY other option. I get that this is a "hygiene" product, but it CAME OUT OF THE BOX dead as a doornail, and (obviously) has not been used. Since it says "this product is not eligible for return" when I click "Return/Replace" and I can't figure out how to contact the seller directly, this is my only recourse . . . and it's probably pointless. I am VERY fed up with four children (and now myself) having head lice, and I was really counting on being able to try this product. I'm extremely hesitant to order another one because I'm even more fed up with the idea that I basically just threw money at this seller for nothing but headache in return . . . and it appears that there isn't a damn thing I can do about it.

This comb is battery operated and makes a humming sound. It zaps live lice,with an electric current. When it hits a live lice it stops humming for a moment. It can give a little shock to the person it is being used on if the sides of the comb touch the person's ear. When using it, just put your hand over the ear. The directions that it came with were kind of vague. I wish I had known this before I started using it on my son, as I zapped his ear a couple of times the first time I used it. Use the comb daily - it only takes a few minutes, less on short hair. It will not remove nits or eggs, it just kills live lice. If you kill the live bugs, they cannot continue to lay any more nits/eggs. We eliminated lice in one day, and they never returned: 1 thoroughly wash hair with a lice killing shampoo, 2.remove remaining nits by hand. 3. Wash all bed linens, hats, jackets, clothing etc. 4. If you can't wash something, put it in the dryer, if possible- the heat is supposed to kill lice. 5. Use the Robi-Comb on dry hair and then use it each day for a week. We had no return of the lice. I believe that since this comb kills the live lice it is the reason they did not return. Oh, another tip- I believe after washing the hair with lice killing shampoo, it helps to put a conditioner in the hair and leave it in, while rubbing the hair - this seemed to help remove a lot of the nits- we used aussie brand conditioner, but I think any conditioner will soften the nits and make them come off of the hair shafts. Just apply conditioner and rub the hair between your fingers. I saw a lot of nits after shampooing and I noticed a lot less present after the conditioner was used, and that was less eggs I had to remove by hand when the hair was dry. We now use this comb at least weekly to prevent lice. We figured he got the lice in school, and so far we haven't seen any nits reappear.

After a bad bout of lice at our house, I purchased this zapper, hoping to do weekly lice checks on dry hair to catch the beginnings of another outbreak. The concept of this things is 5-star. Dry combing + instant electrocution? Perfect! Unfortunately, it's not so simple in practice. Either we haven't had any lice to practice it on, or I'm not using it correctly. I have a hard time getting close enough to the scalp (where lice like to hide) without zapping my kids' head or my fingers. (It's a mild shock, but still.) Even large pieces of dandruff don't get picked up, but again, it might be user error. I'm going to keep trying, but like most things, my promises to do weekly lice checks has fallen to the wayside now that our lice trauma is fading. If you're desperate for a solution, buy this. But if you're wary to spend more on lice removal supplies, maybe stick to the basics. Here's our foolproof method for removing lice: 1) Put on a movie and place your child in a comfortable chair in front of your comfortable spot on the couch. This is going to take a while! 2) Coat hair in massive amount of white conditioner, preferably gently scented or non-scented as minty conditioners can cause irritation. 3) Section hair into 4-6 sections and secure with clips. You will work with one section at a time, starting with the bottom and side sections. Lice like to congregate around the edges of the scalp, so you will most likely find them there -- always in the first inch or two of hair. Do not worry much about the ends. 4) Add additional coating of conditioner, then pull through the length of small sections of hair. Have a stack of paper towels and a trash bag nearby so you can wipe the accumulated conditioner off the comb and onto the paper towel. Examine for any residue. Use the magnifying glass to confirm if it's a louse, a nit, or just dandruff or debris. Then discard the paper towel into the trash bag and start again. 5) Repeat this process all over head, being sure to go through each section several times. 6) Once you have thoroughly combed each section, have child flip over their head to comb from the scalp downward. (Like blow drying your hair upside down.) This is uncomfortable, but you will catch additional lice and nits this way. 7) When you have completed the lice removal, do not rinse out hair. Add a little more conditioner and put child's hair into a bun or braids. Cover with a hair cap or protect pillow with a towel and have them sleep in the conditioner. In the morning, rinse out all the conditioner, blow dry and straight iron small sections. This will get the bulk of lice. 8) Repeat this process once a day for three days, minus sleeping in the conditioner. Just rinse out when the lice check is done, blow dry and flat iron. 9) When you have not seen any lice in two hair checks, you may consider yourself lice-free. But continue to check hair once a week for several weeks to make sure you haven't missed a single one. GOOD LUCK!

This thing is great! More uses than I thought… I tell everyone to get one! First, it worked on the lice. Nothing super special aside from killing adult bugs so they couldn’t crawl away. It was most effective on short hair. The high pitched sound it made when turned on was scary to my youngest and her long hair was not super cooperative with the comb. She needed detangling with every pass. Once the lice was gone, I tossed it in a drawer and didn’t think about it again until… The following spring- I took my dogs out with me in the woods mushroom hunting and, for some reason, I forgot their flea and tick prevention that month. This comb actually zaps ticks which makes them release their jaws and let go. Fleas also didn’t stand a chance. I’ve got 3 dogs and we had another one visiting that month. Two of those were senior dogs who were sensitive to flea prevention already. So, it was great to have a non-chemical solution. I did weekly baths and combed each dog daily. This comb helped so much with the whole thing- lice don’t jump away like fleas do when they are combed. Thankfully, they stay put when they are zapped. It’s easy to snap apart and clean, the battery lasts a long time, and it is safe- it hasn’t zapped any of us on accident. It’s also pesticide free, so it’s great by itself or in combination with other products.

This thing works well. The reason the 1 star review people say it worked for 5 minutes and stopped is because it had just electrocuted a nit. That makes a short circuit between the teeth, and until you clean it out, it stays short circuited and won't work. The written instructions, which I did not receive but I found online just now from the manufacturer six years later, say that even one dead nit, or even dandruff, is large enough to BREAK the connection. That's not what is going on. It doesn't break the connection, it COMPLETES the connection between the teeth and there's no more voltage because it's now short circuited. They don't even know how to describe the workings of their own product. You have to clean the teeth with the included brush (which I didn't get—I use an old toothbrush), or, if it's really dirty with dried nits, take it apart it and soak it in soapy water. All this is in the instructions which I found online. So it's got to be maintained, which to me is no big deal. I was puzzled too when it stopped working, but because I understand electronics I figured out the short circuit concept and brushed it clean. But they should be making a really big deal about the fact that IF IT STOPS, it's NOT broken. It just killed a nit, and until you get that nit out of there and remove the short circuit, it's not going to work. I just now got my 6 year-old nit killer out because nits are about to enter the house via a visiting grandson, and it wasn't working. I held it up to the light and could see one very dry 6 year-old dead nit. It needed an overnight soaking. (Taking it apart is not intuitive, the halves need prying apart with a screwdriver—all in the instuctions.) So always clean it when you're finished. Good product, lousy instructions.

I bought the regular version a few years ago for lice but I didn't know for sure if it worked. I'm in my 60's & rarely leave home, so it really bugged me that I got lice! It finally dawned on me that I'd been to the movies & I'll bet I got lice from the theater chair! Anyway, when my kids were growing up I really drilled it into them to NEVER EVER borrow hats or scarves, & don't use other peoples pillows or blankets, etc. So they thought it was amusing that their old mother was the first family member to get lice. It was more for my peace of mind that I've used this comb after treatment because I kinda lose my mind if bugs are around! But recently my poor little dog had fleas, even though we use Advantage. She was gnawing her skin raw! The vet said fleas are getting immune to what's in Advantage & we needed better medicine. So it occurred to me I've might try this on her for fleas & it works great! Those little buggers bit the dust. Makes me so happy that my poor little dog isn't suffering from fleas anymore. I don't think it's true about it stinging your skin... I've tried it & my dog didn't react. I think some people are making up stuff. So I bought this newer model because I've want 2 in my house in case we see fleas again!

Don't waste your money not worth the price of $30 and it doesn't work that great My daughter had alot of nits and this electronic lice comb should have noticed all of them and saved time and energy but in the end it didn't work all the time off and on. Normally I read the reviews but I was so desperate this time because my daughter has lice bad unfortunately thought it would zap these lice dead instantly like the bug zappers we see hanging in the summer. Recommend by a trusted friend.

Does not work. Desaster waste of money

This has come in and absolutely saved my life. My daughter has long thick hair so while it takes time, it is incredible at keeping these little f***rs at bay. Not having to use the chemicals constantly is a blessing. Don’t hesitate if you need to get on top of the lice chaos.
