How do you inflate this product on a plane?

Your lungs. I did half and my husband the other half. It wasn’t hard to inflate and deflate after landing

The dimensions seem small. Is this really going to be big enough to create a sleeping surface for a small child?

No, it’s not a sleeping surface for a small child. It’s just big enough to go between seats(car/airplain)so the kid can lay down and relax on both seat and the cushion!

Are these allowed during flights? I thought leg space had to be clear.

Yes, definitely! There is no airline written rule against this. The product has no sharp edges and is not on their list of hazardous items. The leg space has to be clear when the flight is taxi'ing, during take off and landing but once the seat belt signs are taken off - you are allowed to inflate the product and use it as a airplane footrest or bed rest for your kid. Make sure to keep the black dust cover on the top surface where your feet or kids head goes. Just deflate the pillow when done using and prior to landing and place it back in the portable carrying bag that's provided.
