Great little tool that every household should have one
I really enjoy this small weeding tool as it is small and light, but very sharp with solid build and design. I am using it to digging the tree root out and so helpful.

You’ll come up with more uses for it than you can imagine
This is a must have for pretty much anyone who has their hands in the dirt. It’s great for weeding and planting in gardens. Also I had to hand trench a water line in a craw space and this thing made it so much faster than the little shovels I was using. It’s freaking SHARP so you have to be careful with the blade

Not for lefties
This thing is great! It completely exceeded my expectations! I've been slacking on weeding since the weather got so hot and humid over the summer but this is a game changer. It very easily gets down to the roots for easy pull up. The blade is sharp enough to cut what has grown high before pulling it out at the root. It would be perfect for creating little seed trenches as well. Two things I would improve on, it only works well using your right hand. My right side was pretty tired but it doesn't work well using the left hand, maybe centering the handle so it could be used with either hand would be helpful. The other improvement is adding some sort of ergonomic grip, the handle is wood with no cushioning, my hand was sore and tired fairly quickly.

Thick, Strong Blade vs Weeds!
Japanese Sickle who knew it would be so incredible! This tool is so versatile and can fly solo when weeding. Even if you find an offspring from a larger plant, you can quickly dig a hole and plant it with this. As to it getting the weeds out with their root .... Absolutely! Other reviewers that mentioned it doesn't get the root simply must be skimming the surface. With the young weeds, you need to put the Sickle about 3/4 inch into the soil and pull. Then reverse the motion and push the soil back. As to larger weeds, take the pointed end and smack it just off the base of the weed a couple inches into the soil. Then with your wrist flick it out of the ground. Use the same technique to pull out those pesty clovers and their seed. This tool is indeed a time saver and actually makes the daunting task of weeding fun in a weird way. Don't get me wrong, it's still work but you move along much faster. I wish I knew about this years ago. Bonus! It's actually MADE IN JAPAN.... Says it right on the label. Why buy a Japanese Sickle from China? The Japan take so much pride in their work, go to the source!

Made for right handers
Well made. Arrived well packed and in a timely manner. The blade is attached on the right side rather than in the center. I find it awkward to use with my left hand and not as effective as it would be if made differently . I am trying to use it right handed but again its awkward and uncomfortable and inefficient. I would love one made with the blade attached on the left side of the blade.

Mugwort’s worst nightmare
It was hard filming and demoing with one hand, but ultimately, this nejiri kama sickle hoe made getting rid of even the deepest rooted weeds a simple task. No pulling out my back trying to parse mugwort from my oregano! The sharpest part is great for stabbing right into the heart of the roots and severing anything stubborn enough to hang on. Clearing out lemongrass and any other shallow weeds without harming my herbs was also very easy because of how much control this blade affords. Now I’m even thinking of getting one with a longer handle for the larger ornamental shrubs which require more reach. But for my veggie & herb garden, this one is light, comfortable, and pretty efficient as it is. Keep in mind that this one is designed for right handed users. If you’re a leftie, Amazon does carry Hounenkihan left handed nejiri kama hoes, but it’s a separate listing. Overall, I can vouch that the Hounenkihan blade on this is very sharp, strong, and easy to use. Just wear gloves and watch your feet - don’t want to weed off a few toes while your in the thick of it.

Japanese Sickle for Weeding
Excited to find this Japanese weeding/gardening sickle online. I bought a similar one at the same time, but this one seems to have a stronger, different shape blade. I returned online and bought a second one for backup. This tool can really get deeper than the other sickle I purchased and cut out more difficult roots. Great tool I can't live without!

Best Garden Tool for Laying A Flagstone Patio on Paver Sand or Crushed Granite!
This is a perfect tool. I helped to lay flagstones to create a patio, and it's so easy to move the sand or crushed granite around before setting the flagstones in their perfect positions. It's also a wonderful surface weeder that acts like a weeding hoe, but allows one to get closer to the ground to give more pressure on the blade for more deeply-rooted weeds. I've been using this type of Japanese sickle for at least a couple of decades, and I can't garden without this tool in my garden tool stash. There is a Japanese garden tool known as a "kama sickle," and it's truly the best for weeding or cutting back perennials. I won't garden without it! Go and search for it. It's sold on Amazon. I have given my adult kids their own kama sickles. The handles come in at least two lengths, and I find the 12" handle length to be the more versatile because the blade is longer than the 6" handled kama sickle. Once you try the kama sickle, you'll start to put your other hand tools in the back of your garden shed. The kama sickle has a serrated blade edge. Be sure to always wash dirt off your blades and other metal garden tools that come in contact with soil to prevent rusting. Dry them before storing.

Amazing Tool
Sharp edge cuts easily through weeds and their roots without jamming up. Used effectively on gout-weed. The only drawback is that you have to be crouching or on your knees.
