This key is missing a crucial component in order for it to be used as intended. The key fob does not come with a transponder chip, which is necessarily programmed to the vehicle and its components. This was not clearly stated in the description. Odd since they are inexpensive, and whats worse is that the key has a slot for it. Volkswagen makes it impossible to diy this, every key needs to be programmed to the switch, among many other things needed for the car to start. the physical key is a trinket without the transponder.

The seller NEVER tells you that the key that comes with this is NOT programmable. Once you put the lock into the cylinder you can't turn the key because the car's computer doesn't recognize the new key. Since you can't turn it to the "on" position, you can't remove the locking cylinder and your stuck not being able to do anything with your car.

It turns over the ignition, but doesn't keep the car running (you get a NO KEY error), and there are no instructions on how to reprogram it.

I installed this product on my wife’s 08 VW Jetta and it was virtually impossible to remove. My issue wasn’t the lock cylinder after all and when I went to remove it, it wouldn’t budge. I had to use a cutting tool to remove it. Also, don’t forget that this item won’t work with your computer system and you’ll need to come up with a solution to get past the anti-theft issues. Just don’t buy it, that’s the tea.
