ZERO STARS
First off the book was not an enjoyable read. The book is translated from Spanish to English very poorly. It's obvious English was not the translators first lanquage. It definitely isn't publication quality. There is literally no information found in this book that can't be found in other better quality books. Why pay 40 bucks for a poorly translated paper back when you can go straight to the source and get a hardback of "Jigoro Kano's Kodokan Judo" for the same price or even a paperback of Kanos book for less than 20 books.Throwing techniques in the book are either poorly executed or improperly executed. It's obvious it's writers have no indepth understanding of the material. There are quotes from Jigoro Kano throughout the book but they are twisted to fit into the authors anti Judo rhetoric.Buyer Beware books are too over priced and contain nothing that can't be found in other better published books. The Self Defense of Kodokan Judo is a total rip off I only gave it one star because I couldn't rate it zero stars.

EXCELLENT BOOK, VERY COMPLETE
This book is a great research study of everything related to self defense within the Kodokan Judo. Very well done and documented. The authors show us numerous sources and unpublished writings of Jigoro Kano and other great judokas and accompany him with very little-known photos. They also appear ancient techniques, prohibited today in modern judo, but in the past were part of the teachings of judo (atemi, kyusho, kappo, and dislocations in all joints)This work is essential for all budokas who love tradition and history. Surely those who only see judo as a sport will not like it that much. There are even some scientific data about vital points and other important aspects.Highly recommended

Appreciate, but underwhelmed
This is meant for at least intermediate judoka, most appropriate for advanced though. I appreciate the topic of atemi waza and self defense which is under emphasised in most programs.Would have preferred illustrations to actual photos of the techniques along with more repetition of the terms/areas/strikes being used; only a list given earlier in the chapter then not reiterated later. Also, while completely understandable it seems that the text was translated or at least English is not the primary language. The production quality and overall content are serviceable but low for the price point. Would have expected this book to be more in the range of $12-15

Disappointing
Disappointing, too very long to get to me and not even from the Kodokan, maybe Kodokan like techniques but not actually from the Kodokan
