EXCELLENT SOIL FOR SANSEVERIAS & SUCCULENTS
(1) For years I used another famous name potting soil (MG), but I switched to Black Gold after getting a couple of contaminated bags of that other brand (MG). (Fungus gnats!). I chose Black Gold Cactus Soil after doing extensive research which included reading many reviews. (2) Black Gold Cactus Soil is an excellent, well-balanced mix which allows the good drainage that my Sanseverias and succulents need. It is a rich, high-quality blend that has resulted in my plants growing faster and vigorously. (3) The quality of the soil has been very consistent in every bag that I have purchased. I just keep re-ordering it as I need it. (4) The shipping is fast. (5) Plant soil is not an item that is very exciting. But, it really matters to have good quality soil if my plants are to flourish. I have spent enough money on the plants and pots! I want to protect my investment by providing my plant friends with a high-quality soil to thrive in. ๐. I am very happy with this soil!

An *actually* well-draining soil
I got this because it was highly recommended by different plant people as one of the best succulent mixes. A LOT of succulent mixes say that they are "well-draining," but are nowhere near so. This soil is dry, hardy, and mixed well with various ingredients. It is a higher price than some other soil. But that's because this soil is actually quality. Clearly this company knows what they're doing for succulents. I added a touch more perlite and sand for some of my plants. If you are a chronic over-waterer like me, I think it's okay to use this soil for other plants as well, as long as you remember to water frequently. Highly recommend.

Great for Succulents
I use Black Gold soil for everything from tomatoes and datil peppers to flowers. It's the best soil I've found. This mix is perfect for cacti and succulents. It is a good draining soil, which they need. If you're using it indoors, you may want to add some extra perlite or inorganic material like clay pellets (akadama) just to make sure that it drains quickly enough to prevent root rot. This is a great deal on the soil, and you can't beat having it delivered to your door!

Perlite, not pumice.
I love the soil mixes by Black Gold. I use the cactus mix as a base and add in more drainage for my succulents and cacti. There are two versions of this mix, one with pumice and one with perlite. I was hoping that by ordering I would get the pumice version, as I did the last time I ordered. This time it was the perlite mix. From what I have read, the mixes differ regionally, as pumice is heavier than perlite and therefore more expensive to ship. I can get the perlite version locally in the Midwest. I would have preferred the pumice mix, as the perlite floats and separates out of the mix quickly. Please specify which mix is being sold in the description.

Drains easily. My plants seem to love it
Looks like nice soil. I transplanted aloe and my jade tree and another new succulents causes of returning pots. New starts and such. A bit earlier in the year than I typically would (mid missouri. Ice and snow like twice a week this past month :/ ) My plants are doing great I mixed it with some other organic soil I had previously but will continue with this in the future

Horrible! Pest Infested! Different Product! Changed Blends! Crap Soil!
My first order of this cactus mix on Dec. 15th was perfect! It is the second picture. Pine Bark, wood products, lava rock....great stuff. I ordered it again Jan 21st and it is horrible! Peat moss and perlite! Wet, moist and fungus gnats flew out of the bag. I have contacted Sun Gro about this inconsistency and they are looking into it. I have talked to several other people in succulent and cactus groups that are experiencing the same problem. The bag labeled "Cactus Mix" is not cactus mix! It's potting soil. I am sending this back and getting a refund. This is not good for cactus's and succulents because it stays wet for too long and does not dry quickly!
