I read alot of the reviews for this exercise bike before I purchased it. According to most of the reviews, it was a ok bike but for some, it was for midgets. I'am 6"4" and 221 lbs. My wife is 5"3" and 187lbs. I have no problem with this bike, my legs stretch out like they are supposed to and my knees do not hit the bars, same with my wife. The bike arrived, the box was crushed, so we checked it out good before puting it together. No broken pieces or missing parts. My wife and I assembled the bike in 22 minutes with No problems what so ever. Alot of the reviews said it was hard or difficult to put together and it wasn't made sturdy. On the contrary, It is a solid piece of exercise bike and assembly was a snap. Even the instructions were concise and to the point. We used our tools instead of the ones provided, since I like our tools when doing projects. After assembly, my wife rode the bike for a total of 4.2 miles nad said the seat was a tad hard but overall she thought the bike was great and a sound investment. I then took a turn at it, rode it 6.5 miles and thought it was a great riding bike except for the hard seat. But we had an extra seat from a old exercise bike that had a gel seat and it makes a world of difference. The guage gives different read outs and shuts down by itself if not in use after 6 minutes. It has 8 adjustment settings and we both tried them on different ones and all provide a good workout. The only thing we did to the bike, was take the pedal straps off as they are not really needed. Overall, We both are very pleased with this bike, in fact so much, We will order another 1 next week for our daughter who is looking for a bike. If you want a great bike at a great price, this bike is for you. Amazon had the best price on it, as we checked 9 different other locations before we bought it. And with Prime it was aGreat Deal....

I am an experienced cyclist who rides for pleasure and for commuting every week on a real outdoor road bike. I also use indoor cycles at the gym and bought this to see if I could get some of my workouts at home. For the low price, this is a pretty good piece of home exercise equipment. The bike was reasonably simple to assemble in 40 minutes or so, it feels pretty solid when you sit on it, and the seat heights are adjustable enough to fit me as well as my 6'2" husband. The position of the seat almost directly overtop of the pedals is more ergonomic than some exercise bikes that put the pedals too far forward and strain the back. It is also completely silent. Easy to ride while watching netflix. ;) I can work up a good sweat at setting 6 in about 20 minutes, and keep it going for as long as I want. Note: If you are not a biker, you will think the seat is uncomfortable the first time you use it. If you use it regularly your muscles will get used to it, and you won't even feel it anymore. This is the case with all bike seats. The more you use, the less uncomfortable they feel. An incentive to keep up with it! 3 small complaints I have: 1) I'm 5'8" with long legs, a shorter torso, and long arms, and I find that the handlebars are way too low down for my liking. The low handles force you to bend forward farther than I want to, and I don't find the position natural from my experience on real road/racing bikes. You have to be careful not to round your lower back because of this constant bend. When I have been on the bike for more than 30 minutes, the position of the handlebars can sometimes become pretty annoying, and I find myself switching between all the hand positions as well as putting my hands on the tops of the handle ends in an attempt to elevate my torso a little (not designed for this). 2) The resistance of the pedals isn't the same all the way around the arc. I find that I have to push harder at some points around the circle the pedals make as they move, and if I keep pushing the same as I go around, other parts of the arc feel too easy and the pedal sort of slips forward until it hits the next hard part of the circle. It takes a bit of time to get used to this, but now that I am, I don't notice it much any more. Just still wish it was a smooth circle of even resistance. 3) The bike rocks a bit as you pedal. It's very slight, and you can change the footing a little by adjusting the end caps on the feet, but I still find that it's a teeny bit unsteady. On our wood floors this causes squeaking as the weight shifts minutely. It's not enough of a problem that I don't want to use the bike though, so overall still 4 stars. Might just depend on your floor.

I was a bit hesitant to order this based on some of the reviews, but the overwhelming majority and some of the Q&A answers compelled me to give this a try. I am so very grateful that I did! This is a very versatile little exercise bike, so long as you realize what this is for. This is NOT a bicycle trainer or replacement. This is simply to give you a good thirty minute + cardio workout. If you are looking for the latter, you will not be disappointed. The bike computer is a tad cheap in construction and feel, but it works well enough. The calorie counter is a tad off, but I use MapMyFitness app on my phone to track that anyhow. I started on the sixth "click" and worked my way up one notch, and now I am alternating between the seventh and eighth, but that is only for thirty minutes. At these settings I end up with "rubber legs" when I complete a thirty minute workout. The seat is pretty comfy, as far as exercise equipment bikes go. I have a rather bony derrière, so bicycle shorts with padding or gel inserts would not go amiss on this bike for me. My being 6'1" also plays into this to some degree. I will point out that my setting is at the highest it will go, and I find it pretty comfortable on my knees. More so than most other stand up exercise bikes. I should also point out if you are buying this to do spinning at home, look elsewhere. This is not that kind of bike. Finally, this bike is very very quiet. It might squeak and groan a bit, but all I had to do was tighten up the bolts and it went away. Only had to do that once. This is the best money I have spent on home exercise equipment to date! I cannot recommend this enough if this bike sounds like what you are looking for. If you want bells and whistles, spinning, or a bicycle trainer, look elsewhere. No offence to the guys out there, but this wasn't designed for your legs, so don't be surprised if this bike doesn't have enough resistance for you. For me, it gives me a great workout! I would recommend this to any other woman out there who wants a small, quiet, and effective exercise bike for their home or apartment.

This was well-packaged and the instructions were very clear about the assembly. My only concern, which was very minor, is that the wrench provided was not bent to a sufficient angle to avoid tearing the seat material when tightening the frontmost nut for the seat. It just needed an eighth of an inch to do it perfectly. My only other difficulty came when I was tightening the screws to secure the handlebars to the front post. There was plenty of thread in the post but it took more and more effort to turn the screws. I finally had to resort to adding the wrench to the Allen wrench to get enough leverage to fully tighten the screws. This problem could have been avoided had I used a thread chaser or tap to clear the threads in the front post. Otherwise, everything went smoothly. I inspected the pedal arm where the pedals are screwed into to see if it looked more substantial than my last bike which had the pedal arm break at the hole. This one had more metal and seems to be made in a stronger design. Plus, this time, I checked that the bike was rated for my weight. It honestly looks as though it is truly rated for 300 pounds. This is the first exercise bike that I have had that used magnetic resistance and I am very satisfied with its operation. The tension knob is calibrated and marked and features detents to make the tension choice precise. Then I was very surprised at how absolutely silent this bike operated. Not just quiet, but no sound whatsoever. And because I have to been able to get the proper amount of tension, my workout time has been shortened because I have to exert more effort during my fast-pedaling routines, thus getting me worked out better. I can now rest assured that my doctor's recommendation for my exercise routine will have the desired effect. I had never worked out before but upon examination, my doctor told me that he wanted me to go for a few minutes at a regular speed; then go for a minute at the best speed that I could muster; then repeat the sequence. This recommendation was because my heart's recovery rate was sub-optimal. With this bike, now I know that I am getting the proper work-out. And I feel that this bike will last a long time because it does not rely on friction to provide resistance. I am really happy with this purchase.

Reviewer: I'm a 63 yr old woman who exercises fairly regularly but has a problematic back and internal abdominal adhesions from surgeries. To the point: PROS: Solidly made, handlebars ARE reversable (see picture below), easy to adjust the seat at a vast range of heights, fairly smooth peddling, easy enough to put together, light enough for me to move around, and customer service was quite helpful. CONS: (These cons may not be an issue for many) - The monitor is poor. Mine didn't work no matter what I did, and I'm very mechanically and digitally inclined. - Fairly strong tension on the lowest setting. Here, it is a matter of preference. Magnetic always feels to me like I'm riding uphill even on low setting. If you like coasting in between strong workouts or if you're a beginner or elderly, or recovering from surgery, this might not be a comfortable choice. You might look for a belt driven, which can feel more like a real bike. - The seat is uncomfortable and I could not find the right size cover on amazon. I bought the Sunlite gel 12 x 13. This was too big and slid around. - Rolls okay on carpet but not on hard floor. I put socks on the ends so it wouldn't mar the floor. - It is somewhat of a gamble because it's so difficult to send it back once you have assembled it and tried it for a while. There are some adjustments that might need to be made. It often takes time to decide if it's right for you. And if you live in a small apartment like me, the shipping box takes up a lot of space, so you'd have to be willing to be stepping over it for the duration of decision making. The task of disassembling and packing it was daunting enough, so I didn't check the actual cost of shipping it back. - If you take the guard off to adjust the tension, be aware that it will take some time, patience and a little force to get it back on again. The problem I had personally was the tension at low setting. Because I have abdominal adhesions, I wanted to start really light. It was just too painful for me. I love riding my regular bike, but it's fairly flat land where I live and I can coast a lot, giving me a bit of a break. This bike is like riding uphill constantly. I just didn't like that so I gave it away.

Lately, I have found that biking 1/2 hr in the morning and 1/2 hr in the evening beside eating less will keep my sugar level in check, so I want a stationary bike to keep me out of the bad weather (I still prefer the real bikes.) After extensive search on the internet, I order this bike (ME-708) for the low cost, the portability (less then 40#) and the good reputation. After the ordering on the Amazon, I came across a better bike (MaxKare Black) which is more heavy duty and allow riders bike standing, I order that bike also thinking I will return the Marcy right after I receive it. This afternoon it came. The box is smaller than I expected and without any damage, so I had a second thought. Give it a try, if it works fine, I will give it to my wife. She can put it in the Morning Room and use it while watching Family Feud. The MaxKare Black is bigger and will be in the basement for my use only. While I put the things together I found that the contents in the box have minimum protection. The instruction is clear. the parts are well marked even though some drawings are in backward (Chinese way, I guess). In the middle of assembling, I found the soft plastic cover of the Main Frame has a crack and dents in some areas (it has no real protection in the box. other parts rest on it and damage it in shipping.) I kept going thinking that I will return the whole thing after the test drive. After finishing the assembly process without any mistake (with ease). Everything was nice and tight. I put it in front of the family room TV and started the exercise. After the first 1/2 hr, I did not want to come down because it was so nice and comfortable on the bike. The seat is much better than my mountain bike (Specialized Hardrock) or my comfort bike (Iron Horse) that I am using for everyday exercising. The mechanism runs very smooth and quiet. even though the bike foot print is small (1 foot X 2 feet) and on carpet, it feels more solid than my bikes so I bike most of the time with no hand touching the handle bar. The resistance is great and more than I really need. At 1, It feels like I am going 1 degree down hill. At 2, It feels like flat road at 6 mile/hr. At 3, flat road at 10 mile/hr.... At 5, you are going up hill a bit...At 8, it's a small hill. It's not a challenge for a serious rider but for an old guy like me, it's more than enough. Even though I just play with it for an hour, I have enough evaluations for the product (I do test for a living). It's solid and will last for awhile if it's used correctly (don't drop it moving or step on the casing of the Main Frame, don't bike backward, don't force the resistance control beyond 1 or 8, use blue lock-tide the next time you tighten nuts and bolts...) The short life items on this bike are: the seat, peddles (plastic with no bearing), internal belt (guess), computer button (leave it at Time because everything else is off. It powers on and off automatically), resistance control cable and knob. So be easy with them. After the test, I decided to keep the bike, saving me time from returning it. I called the distributor to resolve the broken Main Frame cover. The call went through without any long waiting period and the representative agreed to send replacement part. I don't know how long it's going to take but they have 2 weeks to correct their problem. So far I am happy with the service and the bike. With 2 year warranty, I think this bike is a great deal. Now I just have an idea. I will get rid of the couch and chairs in my family room and put 3 or 4 more Marcy bikes in front of the TV for the entire household.

I have a knee injury and walking on my treadmill causes me ongoing pain. I wanted to try switching to a stationary bike but I didn't want to spend a lot of money to give it a try. This thing was cheaper than my local gym and is pretty sturdy. The instructions suggest an assistant for assembly but I was able to put it together myself. I didn't time myself but I would estimate a half hour or less. The instructions were pretty clear, my one complaint is that the first step is 'Do not tighten Nuts and Bolts until instructed to do so' in bold font, clearly important. But then there is only instruction to tighten the nuts and bolts in step 1 (there are 5 steps to assembly). Seems like they missed something there but it's a minor complaint. Gave it a ten minute test ride after assembly and it seems pretty sturdy. The negative feedback I've heard from people who buy cheap bikes is that they are loud and/or wobbly and this one is neither. The seat adjusts up and down in set increments but not forward or backwards. There is no adjustment for the handlebar. The tension doesn't seem to do much of anything. Might make a difference after more than 10 minutes but it's not noticeable in the 10 minute test ride I took. There is no place to put anything (water bottle, phone, etc) so I may grab a cheap kid's bike basket if it will fit, if not I will move it near a table. The seat is pretty uncomfortable but that's a common problem with stationary bikes and I didn't expect much at this price point. Overall I'd recommend it as a starter bike but not for a long-term option because tension doesn't seem to be there and the lack of forward/backward seat adjustment and handlebar adjustments.

Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. As long as I out it on level floor it is very quiet, and that's really the thing that matters to me most in a small house with thin walls and a 3 year old that hates sleeping. I need to lose weight and I live in upstate NY so walking outside every day just isn't going to happen for me, and I really needed something inexpensive. In that respect this is absolutely perfect and worth every penny. Assembly was a breeze. If you have a socket set you can save yourself some time, but the little multitool and Allen wrench that it comes with are perfectly adequate for assembly. It is way easier with two people, so I would recommend that if possible but I could have done it (with a bit more cursing in frustration) by myself. Hooking the computer and tension cable up wasn't that hard, though I wish I had a video of it being done as it would have saved me a couple minutes of head scratching at the instructions (which picture this step from right to left for... reasons?). Now there are a few things I don't like though: - There was broken plastic on the computer. It still works, but my wife has tried on two different occasions for an hour to get ahold of the company and we've had no luck yet. - The foot straps just won't stay connected when I ride. I think it's my big feet because it's ok for my wife, but it is super annoying because when they slip off and start slapping the floor it is very noisy and then I have to stop my workout to fix it. The foot straps are my least favorite part of this bike. - The computer just isn't that great, in addition to being broken for me. The calories are terribly inaccurate to the point where I'd rather it didn't even try. It doesn't know anything about me, it can't possibly tell me how many calories I'm burning, and it doesn't seem to account for resistance. The time, mileage, and speed seem accurate though which is nice, but I wish there were more buttons to just select what I need without needing to cycle through. Overall for what I need at the price I could afford it's great. I'm glad I bought it, and I've used it at least once a day since I got it. I do think that when I can afford the cost and space I'll probably get a more expensive bike at some point though for an upgrade. It is worth it's money, but you can also tell how much it cost.

Very easy installation.. very compact and feels solid in design.. perfect for an inhouse exercise bike. May not be a pro one,but suits basic exercise needs.

Buena opción para pedalear en cualquier momento. Para mi estatura 1.58 m y peso 60 kg está ideal, aunque no sé si funcione para personas más altas y pesadas.

This is an amazing bike for beginners like me. It is quiet and easy to assemble. I assembled it by myself. It fits in a small space. I got it around 2 months ago and I have loved it every day. The only drawback I can think of is that changing gears requires turning a knob and that makes a sort of loud sound so it is a concern if you are working out in the bedroom like me. Also if you are an experienced biker you might not get enough resistances. However I am a beginner and I am loving this bike. Great bike great price

My father is a senior, 86, recovering from knee replacement. He has a regular bicycle and enjoys taking it out when weather is good and traffic is light, but due to safety issues (mostly careless drivers) and the need for an option during bad weather, we researched indoor exercise bikes and found this upright model by Marcy. The bike seems well designed. It's quiet. The seat is soft and comfortable. Height is adjustable. The orange color is odd, but who cares? Dad is happy with it. He can get on and off either by swinging a leg over or by shinnying from behind. We pulled off the stirrups so Dad can get his big feet on the pedals (he's a big guy). Keeping his weak foot on the pedal requires a shoe with a good tread, but again, no problem. Dad rides for 45 minutes at a low tension setting and comes away feeling that he got some good exercise. I get a good workout with middle tension. The 1-button calorie counter and timer are simple and self explanatory. The instructions are missing a critical step for connecting the wires during assembly. You have to cut and remove a tiny white plastic zip tie and then loosen a nut in order to slacken the tension wire and fit it inside a bracket, and then tighten the nut to remove the slack once the wire is in place. Run an internet search for "Marcy ME 709 Recumbent Bike Unboxing & Assembly" for a helpful instructional video (different bike model, same wiring). After a few months, this bike seems great. It's simple, lightweight, easy to move from one room to another, and easy to operate. We are happy and expect to use it daily for a long time.
