This is how hardcover books should feel
First off, the photographs are beautiful. The paper on which the book is printed is heavy stock and just looks elegant. We put this book on our coffee table and visitors waste no time in picking it up to browse.Great price on an excellent book.

Stunningly beautiful book
This book is full of vivid, beautiful imagery. I gave it as a gift to my parents and they have loved it. It's a great companion to the BBC series, which was broadcast on the discovery channel in the US.

A Multitude of Fantastic Photos - Impeccably Reproduced on Quality Paper
I, like a lot of people, thoroughly enjoy a lot of the TV documentaries that the BBC Natural History Unit produce - and especially so if they're narrated/presented by Sir David Attenborough as he seems to bring out the most of the presentation, despite the filming often being the significant element !This 'Frozen Earth' book, along with many others of the 'book of the programme' genre based on the BBC Natural History Unit's work, is an excellent example of why still photos and text can often compare very favourably, even better, than video/voice (I also have the Blu-ray of this series). This is especially so as a fairly recent trend (ie problem !) is to almost 'drown out' what we see and hear with music deemed to be dramatically relevant to the moment being 'covered'. The narration can also be rather simplistic, generic ands a bit 'twee' for my liking....With this book you enjoy the best of what 'Frozen Earth' had to offer, at your own pace and with a wealth of quite stunning photos reproduced to the best possible effect on good quality paper - albeit that the soothing tones of Sir David are absent !The Amazon product webpage includes a 'Look inside' feature so you can get a good idea of what's on offer....So, in some ways this book is better than the TV series and considering that it should be easily possible to pick up a very decent-condition 'used' copy for a snip on Amazon Marketplace as I did.For lovers of these kind of books and especially the work of the BBC Natural History Unit it is something of a 'no-brainer' and highly recommended.

Brrrr
Just reading this made me feel cold! You have to marvel how anything can exist in such a cold environment as the poles. As with most BBC nature themed books they are loaded with high quality full page images with descriptive side notes. The bright vivid colour images capture the harshness of the extremities of our planet and leave you with a sense of awe. Before I watched the TV series or read the book, I was always under the impression that the poles were barren and featureless plains. Nothing could have been further from the truth. The poles have scenes of outstanding natural beauty and the hardy wildlife enhance that beauty. One of my favourite scenes in the book is the trail of wolves cutting a path through the virgin snow. The narrative is what I have come to expect from BBC books, it is informative, educational and keeps your interest. The book will take your from pole to pole and through the seasons. There is a map section so that you can visualise where on earth you are within the book. Another fine companion, fully indexed reference book to the BBC TV show.If you are a fan of the BBC series of shows, I would recommend building up a collection of books to go with them. I have mentioned this in previous reviews; don't overlook the market place for second hand books. These type of books tend to get read once and you can pick up some very good quality copies for a lot less than new.

Very confusing and bewildering situation regarding this book, please check Emails sent to me.
I received an Email from a young man at Amazon who informed me that a second copy of this book had been dispatched to me in response to my complaint about the first copy I had received. He instructed me that I need not return the first copy, keep it with his compliments he said. I believe his name was Kamil or Kapil, or something similar. I can return of course the faulty bad dust cover copy, I only need one of these. Please check your past correspondence to me, thank you, Mary Chid
