I really like this shampoo. It has a lovely thick, creamy consistency and lathers up really well, making it feel like a bit of a treat when you’re washing your hair. The bottle is a decent size at 473ml, but I still think it’s quite expensive for a shampoo, even considering the generous amount you get. I also found the packaging unnecessarily complicated. It arrived covered in plastic, with a separate pump lid and the little tube that fits inside it, which you have to put together yourself. I’m not sure why it couldn’t simply have arrived with the pump already fitted, and it all seemed like a lot of unnecessary packaging. Despite those drawbacks, I do really enjoy using the shampoo itself. It feels good quality, works well and a little goes a long way because of the lovely lather. I’d just like to see a lower price and much less packaging.

However, it is a lovely shampoo so it is worth the extra money. I’m not sure if it’s improving the thickness of my hair yet, but it is certainly making my hair nice and smooth.

The shampoo is an avocado green colour but smells of coconut, reminiscent of holidays. This fragrance was obvious as soon as I removed the screw top lid, but did not linger long enough for me on my washed hair, which was rather disappointing. In terms of ease of use, I have to say that I did not realise that there was some kind of secure stopper under the lid, which needs removing before the shampoo can be used. The result being that I stood in the shower, blind as a bat without my glasses on, frantically trying to squeeze shampoo out of a bottle that would not give up its contents. Having later prised the stopper out with a knife, the next challenge was to get the pump attachment to work. This appeared to be stuck and required a great deal of patience to get it to release. After all that, I cannot say my hair is any thicker yet; in fact it is likely to have turned grey. My conclusion is that the product smells nice, but the fragrance is short-lived and for this price I would have expected a matching conditioner and I would have hoped for an initial easier set up.

At £14.99, it’s more than I usually pay for shampoo, but Botanic Hearth is generally considered a good quality personal‑care brand, and the good sized bottle helps justify the cost. It comes in a tall and slim bottle - not the short chunkier style that seems to be depicted in the listing images. It has a separate pump dispenser with it, so there’s no chance of product being dispensed in transit as the bottle also has a very secure bung that needs to be removed prior to installing the pump. The bottle looks smart and is a pleasant green shade with professional looking design, worthy of a shelf in well-known high street stores. It’s a little on the pricey side compared to other shampoos, but with the biotin element it could have a beneficial effect down the line, so it’s worth a try. Obviously these things take time though, so I can’t say at this stage whether this is going to make hair grow thicker or faster - what I will say is that I take Biotin as a supplement and have found it very beneficial in this area.

What I can say is that as an everyday shampoo I've been happy with how my hair looks and feels after using it. The bottle is a generous size compared with many shampoos, which helps when considering the price. Quality seems good and I like that the formula is free from sulphates and parabens, although that alone wouldn't make me choose a shampoo if it didn't actually wash my hair well. For the amount you get I think the value for money is pretty reasonable, although it is still more expensive than a basic supermarket shampoo. Overall I'm pleased with it. It cleans well, smells nice and leaves my hair feeling soft, but I'd keep expectations realistic regarding the bigger hair growth claims.

Don't know how the shampoo is, as I haven't been able to open it. It has a very thick wax/silicone seal that I could not pry off with tweezers or another tool I had in the bathroom. Will keep trying. Does not come with a pump.
