Its does not show diversity or fashion
The book was not what I thought. It shows you fashionable women of the majority.Only two women of color in book.No fashion, It shoes you the women and them in one or two outfits. Its more like a Biography about there fashion.Nothing special.

Eye Candy
I really enjoyed this book, it's an fun easy read. Most of the 'players' will be easily recongized by anyone interested in fashion. This is a pretty book, with a brief overview of each woman. I quite enjoyed the brief highlights, & feel that it will inspire readers like myself to find more indepth information on the women they found particulary interesting. The problems as I see them are (1) the author does not identify what makes someone 'classic' 'modernists' etc., I feel she should have written qualifiers.. most of the categorize are fairly basic, however can anyone tell me what a 'Candy Girl' is? which is how SJP & Rachel Zoe are labeled; would Haute Bohemian or Free Spirit had better identified these fashionista's? I think so. (2) I find it odd that the author has Carrie Bradshaw as a fashionista rather than Sarah Jessica Parker.. strange. (3) Finally how did the Dynamic Duo Olsens not make this book.

Good fashion book
Lot of fashionista!!These fashion icons not only set trends but style. Their philosphy on fashion is very insightful...Great collection for those who love fashion.

Superficial commentary, suspect classifications, and not enough visual bang for the buck
Assorted famous women are given short sections of commentary that are more breathy admiration than insightful analysis of why they had their moments of being the one people wanted to dress like. You can get better images and analysis in InStyle magazine.

Mixed icons
This is a picture book supposedly of this century's fashion icons - many who are fabulous are included but too many who arn't. Several don't deserve a place in such a book in my view. Many of the real fashion icons are not represented. Why not Ginger Rogers, Mary Pickford, Faye Dunaway, Barbra Striesand, Mae West, so many more? What twisted logic includes Amy Winehouse, Agyness Deyn, Bjork, Sofia Coppola, and Seinna Miller (well know as they are) in a list of a Century's Fashionistas? Who on earth are Rachel Zoe, Babe Paley, Frida Kahlo, Chloe Sevigny, C Z Guest, Slim Keith - never heard of 'em. Werle has chozen a very eclectic mix. Nice coffee table book.
